mattyg 1,862
i know how you feel joeb, i was the 1 moaning at the mrs for getting the dogs insured then low and behold my beddy/whippxgrey got a bit of grass or something in his eye, nothing too serious you may think? well £2400 later which then rose to well over 3 grand after follow up consultations and i can safely say to anyone who owns a working dog GET EM INSURED!. No messin 2
On the insurance front, do you tell them they are working dogs and is it a condition of the insurance that they have routine check-ups at the vets?? Quote Link to post
mole catcher 1
JOEB Can i say how comforting it is to see a lurcher owner who doesnt feel the need to be seen as a hard nosed dogman buy taking the easy route, of either shooting or pasing on a damaged dog. Full respect to you Joeb and best wishes for your dogs speedy recover. PS Top marks for gaining copys of the xrays. PPS: just a thought, ask your vet if giving your dog Lactol puppy milk would it aid bone growth, or calcium powder? Quote Link to post
hedgehunter 0
Well 1 Oblique spiral fracture , 500 odd miles & £2600 later .......this is what my dog looks like...getting lots of fuss and feeling very sorry for herself......She has nothing to do except get fat for the next few months.....another check (& £150) in 6 weeks time to see how she is healing up... The moral of this story is.......anybody without insurance...GET SOME.....thank god I did. JOEB Hey Joe The X-ray shows they have done a good job – I have worked on an orthopaedic ward in the past and have seen these types of trauma breaks patched up really badly, bent screws, poorly matched up fractures. If we do come back after we die, I want to come back as a dog WITH INSURANCE ! Hope it works out , do you get a follow up wth a physio and hydrotherapy ? All the best Edgey Quote Link to post
collie/grey 238
Feck me joeb she looks mighty sore? May i ask how she got in that state? Full respect to you for getting the best treatment possible, it really shows you care about your dogs. I hope she makes a speedy, good recovery. Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
good on you JOE.... you did the right thing and went to a specialist. Looking at the xrays i reckon your dog will be well on the road to recovery and probably "bouncing" to run come xmas....nows the hard part....stopping the little fricker trying to run before it can walk....so to speak...lol...... guys, just another word about prices....the vets always put a huge price in if the pet is insured. its a well known fact and they take the piss with the insurers. If you have an excess to pay, and you are on good terms with your vet see if you can come to some arrangment with them I would be guessing that an insured injury gets charged about 30% more than an uninsured one (at least!)..... Petplan are good and the longest one on the market....... Guest alastair
fair play mate for get it sorted, that what annoys me about some folk, they dont work but run loads of dogs,to properly treat them costs a fortune.petplan is good and covers illness for life, tesco etc only pay for 1 year thats why its cheap.
