maybe so jai but look at the results and im right so far!!!

Yes but don't forget we're talking about first crosses here. A first x bull grey is quite a specialised dog, not an all rounder imo. It might not be that people are voting against all bull x's, but just the first x????

Saluki blooded dogs, ive got one and he is a nice dog and useful but the kelpie x is a genius compared to him.

if you want a handsome dog that can run all day but is a bit weird in the head then the saluki x is ideal

weird in the head??? I think your a bit weird in the head  saluki blooded dogs have a mind of they're own, an it doesn't suit a lot of people. I think aloof is the correct term.

the saluki in tests comes out as one of the most stupid of dog breeds

The aloofness found in some Salukis and there hybrids, is NOT true of all the type, some are very trainable, and are very level headed. Imo, some people use it as an exscuse to breed from stock which is mentaly, not sound, and so the 'cagey' or 'shy' trait is passed on! Why its ok for a Saluki hybrid to be 'moody' and all other cross', not, I don't know!?! A Saluki hybrid should be as fun loving and level headed as ANY dog, imo.

just been out bushing with the dogs this morning and the saluki x was the only one who found and chased on ground the other dogs had worked previously, so they arent stupid and like i said he is a real gent with kids and in the house, he loves a cuddle but he is vague and not very responsive he is more instinctual just a pure hunter.i guess im an add on to him he will do what he will do if im there all well and good but if not he isnt bothered.

Where as the collie xs ive had im the centre of their world and they watch me for guidance and are really quick at doing what i want done.

i suppose what i have come too is that i am more comfortable with a dog that looks on me as the pack leader and my saluki doesnt he is my pal but thats it.

All the saluki crosses i've ever met have been well mannered, confident, and exceptionally obedient, as well as excellent workers . . . . . . But then they have all been owned by "dog men" of the highest order, maybe thats more than a coincidence. :whistling:

I work my dogs a lot Hannah wether its hunting, obedience or more recently agility i dont claim to be a super dog man or anything like it but all of the dogs i own and have fostered and rescued for the society we are a part of go through basic obedience training and socialisation work, and the saluki is just different to every other dog ive worked with. ive heard of very well trained salukis but as yet ive never come across one and im not saying they arent out there but as a breed they need to be understood and the training adjusted accordingly to get the best out of them. not an easy dog for young lads who want a tool box dog

I wasn't directing that at anyone in particular, least of all you! :victory:

Your post about the comparisons between your saluki and your collie crosses, for me read as an insight into a man who aims to get the best from whatever dog he has . . . regardless of breeding. It was merely your findings and preference in choice of breed.

My comment was just based on the fact that all the dog men i know, have brought their saluki crosses onto a standard which they have every right to be pride of.

I totally agree with you that the saluki X's need understanding and adequate time and effort put in to allow them to achieve their highest potential. I have never owned one, but it wil be my next dog, and i'm looking forward to the challenge.
