Depending on the severity . . . . i tend to bandage cut pads, i find it's easier to close them, also my dogs live in the house and its a hassle when they keep opening up. If you do go down this route, be sure to put some cotton wool between the dogs toes before you bandage to prevent sores starting on the toes.

im in the same situation, the vet stapled it,after 4months i ran her it held up a few days later it split,i glued it straight away, after 2months she had a short run it split again,i glued it,it split, now ive left it,i keep it clean and my fingers crossed, its when she really puts the power on that it splits, ive took to the idea she may not run again, shes only 4yrs whippetxgrey, good luck mate and i understand any frustration you feel, patients mite be good i dont know if i should have laid her up for longer when it first split,i took the vets advice which was a failure,im gutted.

keep it clean i put germaline on it aswell and bandage it up for a few days then allowed it to heal naturally after 3weeks lead walking then a couple of weeks just out and around the garden and it was fine mate, no glue no stitches although i was advised to.

Try some MANUKA honey.Spread over the wound & bandage it up.Just have to make sure she doesn't pull the bandage off & lick the honey off.Sounds daft but its really good stuff.really speads up the healing. You can buy it in the supermarket & comes in different stengths.Ive used it a lot & has always worked for my dogs.Atb.Kev

keep it clean and if possible bandage it up. if your dog lives outside tape an old sock and a carrier bag onto it just to keep the dressing clean. cut pads are quite common unfortunately take a while to heal due to there location. be right again before you know it

Don't leave a plastic bag covering the foot all the time: more chance it will get infected: dogs need to sweat through their pads and if the moisture/heat can't escape it will set up a breeding ground for bacteria which love moisture and warmth.

If its a really deep cut it could take as much as a month to heal: lead only exercise and smear the pad with Padsanol from the Greyhound Megastore online....every day. That will help protect the cut and stop the pad drying out.
