Matt 160
Your BASC insurance WOULD NOT cover a commercial activity. An air weapon is a firearm in the eyes of the law. I suggest you get some professional help ASAP as you seem unable to understand the legalities of the work you are being paid to do. You may be misunderstanding me. I am been paid as a waste management company to remove the waste not deal with the pest control. I was looking for an option to clear some rats first as a 'Free of charge' service. And how would you feel if I was to charge the customer a 'large sum' to do the pest control, and then offer to do the waste disposal for 'free'? It's all very well asking for help if you have a domestic problem, but this is a serious commercial infestation that could have a dramatic effect on local households, and is currently jeopardising the health and safety of your client, their staff, and you. There are fully trained and qualified pest controllers out there who would be happy to help your client. The responsible thing to do in this situation is to discuss the issue with your client, and then try and work with the pest controller to find the right solution for the problem. Quote Link to post
fellpack 7
IGNORE MATT THE RAT HE IS AN ARSEHOLE GET A BUNCH OF LOCAL MEN WITH THERE TERRIERS THEY WILL PUT A DENT IN THE PROBLEM ALL THE BEST I would love the terrier option but I wouldnt think It would be possible because of the large ammounts of methane gas coming off the rotting foor in a confined space. I have been instructed I need to take a respirator just to go have a look around.. thats why you need to be covered and trained anyone thinking this is a day out wake up ask your wife and kids to read your posts after an accident you never foreseen because of lack of care for the enviroment your in Quote Link to post

Guest bluemink
Stick to running your waste management company and call in professional pest controllers. I am not trying to cause offece, but honestly it seems like you have a problem with anyone who isnt a full time pest controller killing vermin. 1 Quote Link to post

I am not trying to cause offece, but honestly it seems like you have a problem with anyone who isnt a full time pest controller killing vermin. No offence taken, but just to clarify: I DO have a problem with people trying to make a quick buck out of a professional service I DO have a problem with people coming on here asking 'how much to catch moles' I DO have a problem with people fecking about with rats in their own home I DO have a problem with untrained, unqualified, uninsured people using toxic baits However, I DO NOT have any problem with people killing pests for sport I DO NOT have any problem with people who make and use traps and snares for food I DO NOT have a problem with people who kill rural pests on their permissions I DO NOT have a problem with people who control predators to protect game I know that people often don't want to be told that they shouldn't be doing whatever, but I make a living out of pest control, and I've seen many, many people who've tried to do the same and failed. Tonight, we've had two threads on here asking for help to do what is a commercial job of work. I'm sorry if anyone is upset that I won't give all the answers they are asking for, but that's life. If anyone genuinely wants to get into pest control, I'll happily help them (as several members of this forum know). What I won't do, is to give any chancer that pops up here a short cut - especially if by doing so, they are risking their own health and safety, and/or doing something that should be being done by a trained and competent professional. Sorry. Quote Link to post
stubby 175
Stick to running your waste management company and call in professional pest controllers. I am not trying to cause offece, but honestly it seems like you have a problem with anyone who isnt a full time pest controller killing vermin. trouble is, what a lot of "un qualified" people dont seem aware of, is the amount of paperwork involved in PROFFESSIONAL pest control, now the member asking the question has admitted to being told he needs to wear a respirator to enter the area, so in all honesty, how many members here, hold certification for putting on a mask, what I hear you say laughing, smug smile on faces, lets just forget that and bring the terriers in, well thats ok on a pig farm etc, but this job needs a proffessional, because if not, as soon as the shit hits the fan, which it will do, guess who's going to get the book chucked at them, guess who's going to be asked, where's the risk assessment, the method statement, the coshh data sheets, the certification etc etc, yup, that bloke with his terriers or his air rifle, or traps, guess who's going to be wishing, he'd left it in the hands of a proffessional if members want basic advice, fine, post the question in the general section, but posting it in the "pest control" section, expect to get a pest control answer matt has'ent a problem with others killing vermin, like myself, he probably has a problem, when un qualified people want the qualified advice and prices that a proffessional will charge, so they can go in with a lower price, fucks it up for us really, as they may get away with it once or twice, but there will come a time when everything goes tits up, and they then say, well HE TOLD ME TO DO IT Quote Link to post

MR TEA POT 1,287
I DO have a problem with people fecking about with rats in their own home Not being funny mate but whats it got to do with you if its in their home,i would sort them out myself instead of paying a pest comtrol company which i know will be fecking expensive. Most people will do it themselves then pay stupid money out for a pro. I'm afraid I disagree with you there Mr TP. People shouldn't risk the health of themselves, their pets, and their children just to prove a point. If you'd seen the number of failed DIY treatments as me, I'm sure you'd agree. It doesn't just effect the home owner either. By the time people have tried (and usually failed) the infestation has often also started to effect neighbouring properties. Money is no excuse. All (bar two) local authorities offer free or subsidised treatments to residents - and there is also the Social Fund which exists to help people with this type of crisis who are on income based benefits. It's not that some people can't sort these problems out for themselves, it's that most people seem to be incapable of reading simple instructions on a container, never mind understand the basics of rodent biology.
