pitdawg913 27
Hello everyone, I'm new to the board and just recently got my self a nice young little Patterdale! So far I love the little guy! He's a great little dog in the house, great with my other dogs but hes full of fire out in the field! Ive taken him out in some hills close to my place to see what we can find, hes interested in everything but we havent gotten anything besides some mice. I have lots of experience with the bull breeds, own 3 pitbulls, but this is my first "REAL" terrier! Any tips and suggestions on how to get started workin him would be great, He does okay off leash until his nose takes over then i have to go chase him down. Any tips on teaching a solid recall with a guy like this? We have foxes, coyotes, raccoons and lots of rabbit around here I would love to hunt him, but dont want to lose him. Is an electronic collar a good option? Thanks for any and all suggestions, been really enjoying reading the posts on here! Quote Link to post

Tallyho 181
Hello and welcome to the site . Most terriers will sod off, some more than others when out and they get onto a sent , the only thing you can do is maybe take him some where where you know there is no quarry about and just keep practising with the recall and lots of praise but then it still may go straight out the window when he gets out and about mooching they tend to throw a deaf un . MAIN MAN 277
Looks a nice leggy type just what you need buy the looks of him! try not to let him hunt untill you have some control of him, he will learn to find and learn what he is hunting in time, most terriers are stubern little shits who hate being told what to do. Like has been said a locator is a must because he will find his way down the nearest hole and you may want him out asap untill he learns his trade. Good luck with him and keep us posted Quote Link to post
