4: am & 5 minutes away from our permission

Recommended Posts

Hi every one

Chaz and I had planned another dawn raid this time a bit closer to home, our nearest permission at south Marston just off the A420 towards Oxford

Chaz picked me up @ 4:00 am and we were at the farm by 4:05am let me get it right this week. I took the AAS410K .22 & chaz had AAS410K .177 we planned to get there before sunrise @ 4:51am so we could have a cup of tea and watch the front green for activity. As we pulled in to the courtyard there was two bunnies out on the front green so while were finishing our cuppa we observed them to see where they went, and as we suspected they went under a big ole oak tree.

Now it was time to get set up and have a wander around, went to have a look in the small bit of waste ground to the left of the property as you enter it, and chaz went to the rear of the property. No time to put on the handycam because it wasnt long till I spotted my first target; I must have walked 20yds to have a peek over the wall which is covered in ivy and also makes a good sniping point.

But the nettles must have been about five feet tall so my view and a clean shot were not possible. As there is a difference in ground level by about two feet, so a slow crawl to the gap in the wall where there was enough ivy on the hedge to be concealed and take a clean kill shot! I slowly raised my gun tuff range finder a click and ranged at 26yds, so a standing shot was in order, because if I knelt down my target wouldnt be visible. Now I will be honest im not to great at standing shots but as this was 26yds I knew it was about my limit, up came the AAS410K .22 today as always I was feeding it AA FIELD

Cross hairs on target abit of a wobble but changed my stance and my breathing under control THWACK! It just flopped to its right with the force of the AA field hitting the spot! I was impressed, as you would be if you dont take many standing shots.

Where it fell

So then I just broke cover to go pick it up, and with in seconds a magpie was on the ground by my prize, but it clocked me and flew off! Then I here a movement behind me and turned around and it was a roe deer, lovely looking animal about 25yds away, I must have spooked it with my prize shot at the bunny. Because it didnt hang around then I

Got to thinking ah ha I will use this bunny and see if I can get some scopecam footage of the magpie or a corvids. As I remember someone on here asking if I could get some magpie footage, so back on to the front lawn and I ranged a spot 30yds and cut the bunny open and let it all hang out

Here is a pic

and footage

Then I got under a big ole fern tree, and mounted the handycam on to the MTC Mamba 3-12x44 put the mag down to 3 and adjusted the focus on the scope and the cam till they were in sync. And I waited I knew they was near as I could here them in the distance!

And how I left them for a while

An hour had passed on I decided to have a look in here on me phone, as ya do when its going slow. as I was waiting for it to boot in, then my cunning plan had worked the sky pirate had landed and then its mate joined it, and they wouldnt stay still for long as they were ripping in to the carcass, I turned the cam on cross hairs on target just had to wait for them to stay still then the shot was on! THWACK!! Down it goes with a wriggle and nerves. Then its mate joined it, but as you can see I just touch the feather with the second shot DOH! It was up in the tree, but could here it but not see it.

I stayed under the tree for another couple of hours and me back was giving me jip, as I turned to make my self a bit more comfortable, a kit was looking right at me 7yds away so too close for hold under. so I got up really slow and paced out 25yds got back down in a prone position all this time the bunny was watching me lol then I let the vermin have it.

THWACK!!

And footage

After this session I went into the front field and headed to the north corner of the field, as I rounded the corner I must have seen at least 10 bunniess making for the hedge line. A big problem with this field its totally open hardly any field cover, so have to spook then back down to gain a good position then just play the waiting game! And boy did they make me wait nothing showed for 2 hours so it was cuppa tea time and back to the truck via a small ditch filled with nettles my height, as I was wading through them steadying my footing every step, I see a better route up through an opening through an ivy tree. I went this way because it brings me to the back of the property and a chance to cull more vermin, but as I make my way through the nettles and the tree eventually. I put some weight on a thick branch with my size nines, and it seemed sturdy enough, so up I went and through the other side slowly. I had a peek through the ivy but nothing was out so I made sure my foot on solid ground and came down with my right foot. Straight down a rabbit hole DOH!! Straight down on my face! And pmsl because it must have looked funny, and the thought of putting it on here made me laugh more too! No harm done up I got and dusted my self down and told chaz about it over a cuppa he also phsl

After our cuppa chaz went in to the front field to a small hide I made ad settled in there!

I went back the way I came but minded my step this time lol, as I came out of the nettles I see some movement about 30 yds away. So I froze till I could get a bearing on what it was and where! It was a rabbit after closer inspection through my gun tuff range finder. No need to raise the AAS410K to large for bugsy to see and pointless, the range finder much lighter and slower to use! And less for bugsy to see any movement.

Right now I know how far away it is away im down slowly in ninja style on to my butt I pulled out the 9-13 bi-pod to max and adjusted the handycam accordingly, I could barely see it as the grass was quiet long. So a few squeaks to see if it raises its head but to no avail

The first piece of footage, stubborn bunny

Then just as I was going to give up and move on as time was getting on now and it was beginning to get a lot warmer! It raised its head THWACK!!! And it was lights out it didnt even know what hit it

Where the shot was taken from

ABCD0013-25.jpg

I also caught it grazing

ABCD0015-23.jpg

Here is the footage

I went to pick him up and settled down a few yards away from where it fell, and faced into a grazed area which I could clearly see,

ABCD0014-23.jpg

I waited here for another hour but nothing showed that was in my zero! So it was time to call it a day, but just one more look around on the way back. And to my surprise another kit was out by the big ole oak tree, so back down in the prone position no scopecam this time just the MTC Mamba. I took aim THWUCK! Missed it straight over its head, forgot to allow for hold under DOH!

I met back up with chaz for the photos, but chaz forgot to take a pic of his 2 doh!!

And that my friends was my tale for the dawn raid, I hope you enjoyed it.

Oh! And here is a pic which I thought was cool! Of dew drops on grass which look like little lights, well I was bored lol
