Two bucks and a munty

Recommended Posts

Saturday evening saw me on a place local to me where the deer come and go really as there is a wooded bank nearby that they spend most of their time in or around but is unfortunately not my ground ,yet :boogie: .My permission here at the moment comprises two farms back to back with no woodland to speak of but lovely meadows which hold as long as disturbance is kept down .The farmers on both land want the deer kept tight so thats what i do .Bumped a buck down the bottem of the first farm on a water meadow that ran off barking for all the world to hear !Never mind as there was plenty more groung to cover yet.Surprised a badger cub out and only 7.30 in the evening but he ran off before i got the camera out .On the higher fields i stalked through a patch of rough to another meadow and came across a doe the other side of a stream.I got the rifle on sticks just in case she had a buck in tow but it was soon evident she was alone .As she grazed along the fence line i saw a movement in the grass that was growing up through the wire .At first i thought it was a kid but the doe was too young for that and the colour didnt fit for the size either .A study through bins revealed a munty doe feeding alongside the roe doe.Waited til it got to a decent gap and took it through the chest .The roe wasnt phased at all and grazed on until i made my self known .

Gralloched her and decided to stay in the area until dark as this bank has produced before and is a favoured spot .Moved on a bit along the bank to follow the sun.

Not long to wait before a buck came out right opposite me and the shot was a meer formality at 60 yrds off sticks,a youngster with a characteristic tall, 4 point Wiltshire head.

The phone rang and my boy ased if i was lamping tonight so went back and fetched him from home and headed back to the same place to hopefully find a charlie on the gralloch .Worked a treat with a dog fox on the spot with a full belly .Shot him off the bonnet with my boy lamping .

This morning up at the crack of dawn and out to the market garden i have to try for another buck before going over the game dealers .walked nearly all of it before even seeing a deer which is unusul .A buck had his head in the trees that border the planted areas and never saw me approach .I was unsighted until i rounded a corner and saw his ass end .This is where sex id comes in as the head was obscurred in the hazel coppice .I got the rifle on sticks and shot him through the chest at maybe 90 yards .The farmer has trouble this time of year with not only the deeer eating his crops but trampling the germination sheets as the pic .Holy sheet equals poor germination as the elements get in .

The gralloch is best done on the back of the truck here as the sand gets everywhere .That down it was off to the game dealers and weigh them in .

Well done there mate.

I dropped 2 off at the butchers the other day and 1 wasn't tagged as we had just shot it and I had no tags left in the glove box.

That afternoon saw a spot check at his premisses and they picked up on it striaght away.

Luckily they could get my hunter I.D. off the first so all was well.
