that's a bit worrying, I've not heard of attacks on horses before... I suppose it is possible that the wounds could have been inflicted by a human - a few years ago there were several cases of thugs going round slashing horses with knives.

Not many sightings of big cats here, but I did find the remains of a young calf's leg in one of our fields a couple of years back :icon_eek:

I am not at all surprised, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Plenty of attacks on sheep and goats are recorded but not heard of any involving horses before

Totally agree with you, theres plenty of big cats living wild in the UK, an older, frailer or injured cat, unable to hunt its usual prey successfully, would get desperate enough to tackle anything, in a vain bid to survive.

When i was working with big cats in Africa, i saw a couple of incidents involving older lions, unable to keep up with the pride anymore . . . . one turned her attention to our camp with a view to easy prey, and one had a crack at a captive baby elephant we had at the time. Scary stuff. :icon_eek:

Sorry but i dont believe it theirs big cats all over the country its funny how no wildlife programs have tried to prove other wise as they managed to find and film snow leopards in a vast area like the hinducush but wont attempt to try and find them in the british countrysidehmm.gif

id love to see real evidence of "big cats" there's that many fakes about, you cant say what's true or untrue. Even over here in Northern Ireland there was rumours of them here :icon_eek: scary thought but not enough evidence out there. Nicole.

I'm with you on this one, big cats are not that elusive, they've got to shit, sent mark, there is no mistaking the smell of cat piss. Plus, females on heat can be heard for miles, if they were there, there would be no secret we would know , and the marks on that horse look nothing like big cat scratches.

have to disagree with you on that one. in the paper a few weeks back it was saying about a man that made a documentry on big cats in britain. he collected so much evidence that the program wasnt allowed to be broadcasted because they would fear what the reaction of the public would be. i know the paper isnt always true but this program wasnt allowed to be broadcasted.

In my opinion all this talk of big cats in U.K. and Ireland is total rubbish. These animals leave tracks, scent and make noise especially when breeding. With all the people in both countries who hunt with hounds, terriers, spaniels and lamp with lurchers, not one example of proof has been shown. And as has been said already if snow leopards can be found and filmed in the remotest corners of the earth and yet no big cats can be filmed here, that surely must tell you silly gullible "believers" THAT YOU ARE WRONG!
