lost scouse 46
ok mooched some mesh just wondering if the mesh size is to big the cage is 5ft 4 long the mesh size is 8x4 its in two pieces for transit any comments welcome Degsy Quote Link to post
stubby 175
if the mesh is 8"x4" its way too large, foxes will insert paws from the side, trying to reach baits, rather than entering the trap, resulting in lots of false takes Quote Link to post
lost scouse 46
stubby whats the largest mesh size you would use Degsy Edited June 4, 2010 by lost scouse Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
Cubs and skinny vixens will fit through that size mesh - it will make a good frame to attach a smaller mesh to though. I have found 2" galv square weldmesh to be fine for the job OTC Quote Link to post

stubby 175
thanks for the replies thats me back on the mooch for mesh Degsy as already stated, use that as your framework, that way, you only need, say 3 bits of mesh, 2ft square, to fix on sides and top over your bait plate/hook, as long as they cant paw the bait, the rest should be fine you maybe able to see, smaller mesh attached to left side of trap, even on 2" mesh I was getting takes from the side, it now has 3/4x3/4 in the bait area the chickens were let out the coop, after dispatching the fox Quote Link to post
lost scouse 46
stubby i see never covered the floor of the trap its been said foxes tend not to like or are weary of the wire on there feet Quote Link to post

stubby 175
stubby i see never covered the floor of the trap its been said foxes tend not to like or are weary of the wire on there feet have never ever set the floor with dirt, although urban/town foxes may be different from country ones, as long as the bait is old and smelly, seems to do fine ok after good advice ive managed to find somemore wire what do you reckon ive only done the bait area taking into account the first mesh is 8" long, that makes your trap look around 32" or is it just the way the picture was taken, Id say the trap needs to be at least, 5ft long Quote Link to post
lost scouse 46
the trap is in 2 halves stubby for transportation its total length is 5ft 4 long im going to peg it to the ground and fasten them both together Degsy Quote Link to post
