"What's easier for a dog; Hare or Roe" ? Bit of a daft question in my oppinion. I've seen hares taken out of their seat by dogs that couldn't catch a hare given fair law...also seen roe bounce of fenc

You want to get a better dog then................................. If the dog isn't actively trying to kill it he ain't gonna be HOLDING for very long. I have seen dogs kill all species of deer up to

hare,iv had dogs that would not stand a chance on a good hare, but deer were readily taken, jmo

Give a good strong roe deer "law" and see how "easy" roe are.

a hare versus roe, you only got to blow on a roe and it will fall over, you need a good dog to take a day time healthy hare :tongue2:

How many roe have you "blown over" mate ?

Cheers.

a few pal , im not taking the piss even the whippet brings them down by grabbing the back upper leg , lurcher will go for the neck and kill them pritty quick . the whippet is soft as shit and no killer by any means, before the ban this is. you catch them in the right places they will run in circles, which is alot easier for the dogs. dont get me wrong ive seen alot of deer lose the dogs at hedges where they hit them at full tilt and the dogs cant get through as quick and loose to much ground. have to excuse the exspression blow over but there have been some easy take downs the worst bit is the kicking legs when there down. pm me if you want. atb

this is full of shit having hunted both hares and roe ,ive had harder chases on roe in some parts leaping hedges through woods ,sometimes , then ome days the hare was the king ,hunted them for many years and found both very good qaury the roe better eating and more saleble end off . once you have caut four figures of both come back and tell me whats easy

You lot could have a row over whether it was day or night :clapper:

IMO it all depends on the terrain, whether the quarry's been run before and on the dogs running style. I have known dogs that make roe look easy but couldnt touch a hare and others the other way round.

This is hunting, animals are individuals and no situation is ever identical. There are no hard and fast rules so what is the point of arguing over each other opinions?

(pre-ban) i had a racey bull cross who could catch day time hares no problem but never had a good opportunity on a long leg during day time so it depends on what ground your coarse is on with both quarry.(pre-ban)

the deer may jump hedges but so does tthe dog or goes through them if a hare goes into a wood it is much harder to keep on then a deer deer re easier to spot make more noise plus a hare can get were dogs can't and what about a hare going to ground or bolting in pipes a deer is is lot easier to spot and keep on aslong as the dog has the deer in sight it has a good chance and like i said before i also think its to do with size its easier tlo strike on a deer than it is a hare and i also think a hare copes better when its been pressuredb

To me easy. The day time hare showed the mark of a good dog.I loved watching my dogs working open ground.Had a friend out with me years ago. He,s well knowen for his dogs now.He seen one of the dogs nose go down tail strait up and movement going up a gear and asked me what it meant.Toll him just watch 30 sec later the course was on.Few mins later a hare in the bag. This little lurcher could stick to them like glue.Very rarely missed a turn.Got four one day with her.atb. 4 figures on long ears no problem, and i was well into the 3 figures on the long legs even though i didnt like doing them.if i did like it there would have been a larger amount of long legs than long ears.we have mutual freinds that you can check that statement out with whin  im talking in general here, but the terrain ground and cover do have a large part to play in it  atb the droverps this was all done pre ban :icon_redface:

I have not seen anything equal a WhiteTail Deer for speed and knowing the land! They fight a dog as well!!...my dogs don't run them, but seen it done buy naughty guys,...

I went out with them same naughty guys. I thought they had really really great dogs until I started watchin them try to do them white tail. It was then I realized just how poor the dogs really were for the job. Only took me about 2 nights to know that them naughty guys better make up their minds, either keep what they have and just have fun, or change gears and get better dogs. They decided to keep what they have and just realize they aint gonna catch many.
