watchman 256
did you mean old? regardless of their age they panic and in densely wooded area's and smash into things and get caught up,in the open during the day it would be very different imo No i ment the odd one's .Those i have seen [bANNED TEXT] they hit woods and dont panic just seem to glide through in leaps and bounds usually leaving the dog standing. must be the same ones iv seen Quote Link to post
Trigger 26
nothing hard about taking deer a decent sized game dog will do it no problem, apart from that it must be one of the most cruel uses of dogs. i have no time for it or people who do it. i have never been into hare coursing but have run a few in my time and it takes a helluva dog to give a good show on a fit hare in small fields with law given. ive taken a few but my dogs are rabbit dogs and a hare course used to be the equivalent of six rabbits so there was no point. my hare chasing days were pre ban by about ten years, if i see a hare in a field i will leash the dogs these days its just not worth the hassle and often the farmers quite like them if there is only a few so why upset them. Permission isnt easily got. why do you say that taking deer with a dog is cruel? i dont understand why people bang on about it being cruel. I know wat you mean i think its people who have never done it and just go on wat they have read or heard imho its the most natrual form of hunting known to man and one that setts the adrenelin flowing like no other.Nature its self is cruel and takeing deer with dogs is way down the list of cruel acts in natrual behaviour in nature its self.atb dell you speak alot of truth there poacher3161. stroller 341
Im not an anti by any means but i have my opinions about deer coursing and those that know me respect that. I agree it is one of the oldest sports and any hunt with hounds has its beauty and savagery, but i beleive its not the hut that repels me its killing of what in my opinion is a beautiful animal, and up here there are only a few about and i would like to see a few more. i hunt for sport and a bit of banter i kill a few rabbits by ferreting, bushing or shooting and thats enough for me, hunting isnt my job its a hobby, i love my dogs and some days more than the kids, i have a lot of stuff going on in my life that means i dont have the time a lot of people have to go out 7 days or nights a week and even if i did i probably would still look for something else than hunting to fill the time. anyone want to discuss my faults or call me silly names is more than welcome to talk to me at the leeholme lurcher show near coundon co durham, my pictures on my avatar so you can recognise me Quote Link to post
matmorgan 49
i have ran them all imo fallow and roe are easier to catch than a hare but you try catching them chinese water deer them feckers can run and there turning ability is awesome ive had real good coursing dogs not be able to catch um my old bitch only ever took 1 hare and that was only cos she snatched it out its seat.caught cwd regular though with no real hassle. MOO 730
A good strong roe that knows its ground and knows what a lurchers is will test a dog just as much as a hare and thats a fact Quote Link to post
ROCKO+BECKY 4
takes a very good dog to do both roe and hare daytime when they at there best by any means and even more so if it being done regular pre-ban Quote Link to post
Butler 396
A good strong roe that knows its ground and knows what a lurchers is will test a dog just as much as a hare and thats a fact You know nothing mate everyone knows that deer are big clumsy things that run round with there eyes closed just waiting to run into something. A buck rabbit is more of a test to a lurcher than Bambie FACT!!!!!!! Quote Link to post
