nothing hard about taking deer a decent sized game dog will do it no problem, apart from that it must be one of the most cruel uses of dogs. i have no time for it or people who do it.

i have never been into hare coursing but have run a few in my time and it takes a helluva dog to give a good show on a fit hare in small fields with law given. ive taken a few but my dogs are rabbit dogs and a hare course used to be the equivalent of six rabbits so there was no point.

my hare chasing days were pre ban by about ten years, if i see a hare in a field i will leash the dogs these days its just not worth the hassle and often the farmers quite like them if there is only a few so why upset them. Permission isnt easily got.

"What's easier for a dog; Hare or Roe" ? Bit of a daft question in my oppinion. I've seen hares taken out of their seat by dogs that couldn't catch a hare given fair law...also seen roe bounce of fenc

You want to get a better dog then................................. If the dog isn't actively trying to kill it he ain't gonna be HOLDING for very long. I have seen dogs kill all species of deer up to

hare,iv had dogs that would not stand a chance on a good hare, but deer were readily taken, jmo

some of it depends on the dog and what it preferes. My old dog has had a hard life and is feeling the effects of a few hard seasons, and when a hare gets up more escape than get caught(bearing in mind he is a well bred hare dog). but if he stumbles across a deer he runs like a pup and not many get away(he pulled his last 12 out of 12 runs). Though he will be stiff afterwards! On the other hand i've seen good hare dogs(regular 3 out of 3) that dont catch many deer.....they are fast enough but its the pulling thats the hard part....to hit a 50/60lb deer a 30 mph takes some balls. Most are caught by dykes or fences.....and ive even seen a fallow stag been chased by a terrier run straight into a tree and knock its self out!!

why do you say that taking deer with a dog is cruel? i dont understand why people bang on about it being cruel.

if you had 2 deer parks with 100 deer in each and you went into one with a riffle and the other with a dog every day for 2 months allowing a dog 2 slips only and the riffle man 2 shots, i bet you the deer in the park the dog as run every day as more deer in it than the park thats been shot in, and i bet they are a dam site healthier. i dont see how its that cruel for the deer averall. jmo

I know wat you mean i think its people who have never done it and just go on wat they have read or heard imho its the most natrual form of hunting known to man and one that setts the adrenelin flowing like no other.Nature its self is cruel and takeing deer with dogs is way down the list of cruel acts in natrual behaviour in nature its self.atb dell

did you mean old?

regardless of their age they panic and in densely wooded area's and smash into things and get caught up,in the open during the day it would be very different imo

No i ment the odd one's .Those i have seen [bANNED TEXT] they hit woods and dont panic just seem to glide through in leaps and bounds usually leaving the dog standing.

Its irrelavent now as there off the quarry list but for you to say any decent sized dog will do it and its cruel questions who you saw doing it, must of been amatuer hour. Why is it cruel compared to a lurcher chasing and retreiving a rabbit.............

Oh, and back on topic, hare.........
