daytime dogs

Recommended Posts

people always say that the daytime hare is the ultimate quarry for a dog but what about a daytime deer pre ban. both the hare and the deer are fast inteligent quarry, out of the two which would you say is the most challanging quarry out for a dog single handed as both would require good stamina.

"What's easier for a dog; Hare or Roe" ? Bit of a daft question in my oppinion. I've seen hares taken out of their seat by dogs that couldn't catch a hare given fair law...also seen roe bounce of fenc

You want to get a better dog then................................. If the dog isn't actively trying to kill it he ain't gonna be HOLDING for very long. I have seen dogs kill all species of deer up to

hare,iv had dogs that would not stand a chance on a good hare, but deer were readily taken, jmo

I've seen a dog take day time fallow that was lucky if it ever took a hare, I saw the same dog take down a donkey and hold it by the throat. :D Don't no if that proves anything, but it's a fact.

thats suprized me as i thought if a dog was able to take a deer in the day he would have been able to take a hare. in your opinion/experience what do you think the hare as that the deer doesnt to make him harder to catch.

Aye thing is the hare can turn faster and sharper, throwing the dog off, and the deer has more to run into, if that makes sense - a lot are caught near hedges, fences, trees etc. The deer probably has an equal or greater straight running speed but the its all in the turn.

just like hares jump in the air from stress especailly if they've never seen a dog before plus deer hiting fences is mainly a night thing due to the lamp. day they normally clear them well enough, so both make mistakes you could say. just from my experience <which is little> i'd say deeer still.

when the hare jumps under severe pressure its an evasive manoover seen it many times, and it sure can out fox an inexperienced dog.but as for deer fencing, that happens VERY OFTEN daytime.pre ban  35 years experience :icon_redface:
