poacher3161 1,766
im up for a trip there, Red and Hot two words to describe the fens in parts Saluki blooded dogs reighn supreme on this land but thats not to say other type lurchers carnt catch the odd ones as any lurcher with a good mouths got a chance Quote Link to post
leedetek 9
theres an exception to every rule ,i live in the heart of the fens and my best hare dog was only 21ths and looked like a leggy terrier , i got him as a 7 week old pup with ferreting and bushing in mind but he took a liking to the long ears and rarely missed them once he got bending them . but as i say he for me was the exception and no doubt i ll never have another one like him, and i must agree when running on fen if they haven t got the knack of picking up quick then they ve got to run forever which is where the saluki blood comes in. fensaluki 35
Once you have been here and coursed a hare with a good saluki based lurcher you'll never want to run daytime dogs anywere else in my opinion.....but then I am a little biast I suppose. and I do hope all you guys coming to the promised land for a trip have your leaf sorted out on these flat ol fens when he comes over the top there is no hidding place....trust me ATB Quote Link to post
arcticgun 4,548
Take a look on the Seagull and daughters thread mate jamie has uploaded some excellent footage of saluki lurchers working on the fens some of which is from what is considered the Golden era of coursing, theres also plenty more footage on You Tube and DVD's for sale on various sites and shows. Years of selective breeding (by some) has produced 'saluki lurcher hybrid's' which excel in catching of hares on the fens and other large open land tracts. Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
tbh - big flat land where there is only ONE thing a bloke with a saluki cross is going to be doing . . . . hotter than a good vindaloo. Quote Link to post
