Deker 3,478
I have very little experience here, but I do have a trap and I do have an issue on a clients site. Some background on baits and trap siting and any other hints and tips much appreciated! Cheers Quote Link to post

bedrock 16
I use Fish heads of any kind (free from the fishmonger) I’ve only caught mink with fresh bait, they don’t seem to go for anything rotten unlike foxes. There are people on here that do allot more trapping than me so are better qualified to answer your question , but that’s what as worked for me. While we are on the subject does or has anyone use scent lures to trap mink (Squid Crayfish etc.) And did you have much susses with them? Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
I have always used smoked kippers at this time of year as mink bait - fishy smell and doesn't get flyblown so readily as fresh baits OTC Quote Link to post
bud 5
I dont know much about mink but have just been reading the book 'Rural Pest Control' by Steve Caple, in the mink section he says rabbit is the most popular bait with pigeon breast complete with a few white feathers coming a close second. However he does go on to say that any smelly, bloody bait will do, try a few different things and see which is best. Hope this is of some use? Quote Link to post

PatterJack 11
As MAIN MAN has said, although i use tinned sardines as theyre easy to carry alot of and clean. Just pierce the lid a few times to let the smell out. Ive also has success with mink rafts... basically a cage trap on a floating raft. I've only used these in still water (ponds and ditches) Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Thanks guys, I've learnt a bit here! I'm still waiting to hear back about the job, I did the site survey last Saturday which was primarily to do with a fox but the mink issue was also raised by the client. The site is a domestic garden but the entire border at the bottom of the garden is the River Loddon. This is a tidy area down a private road, gardens are really not descriptive, all the property in the area are really estates!! Cheers Quote Link to post
