irishnut 297
my mate asked me to check this out for him, he lost his arm in a bike crash. his current guns are a beretta al391 20g extrema and an old single barrel poachers .410 the rifle he's going for is either .222 or 22/250, he needs light weight for carrying/aiming, also needs either long bipod or sticks which can attach to rifle as he cannot bend knees much. money is in the question. so more or less what im asking is names of good lightweight rifles in .222 or 22/250, and a tall bipod(3-4'). this is serious topic. all advice gratefully accepted. irishnut 297
he wants to hunt(fox), not just shoot targets. but i guess that they would probably have lightweight guns for competition use, so he may be able to get custom light stock made, i will suggest. cheers for help dave Quote Link to post

RicW 67
It would be worth his while to talk to his RFD about adapting a camera tripod. It should be possible to adapt the camera mount to fit the bipod thread on the fore-end. Ric Quote Link to post
irishnut 297
its the weight that is the prob, it needs to be lifted by his 1 arm, 3 legs to set up in a field to shoot a fast fox would be slow too Quote Link to post
RicW 67
Point taken about the time to set up, but the portable tripod that I used for field photograpy only weighed a kilo or so. It came with a carrier like a baby golf club bag, with a shoulder strap. Anyway, I hope yout oppo gets sorted one way or another. Old bikers never die, they just smell that way. irishnut 297
my mates just told me about a company in england that can build him a custom fibreglass stock, he supplys the original rifle, with stock to them, and they make a fibreglass copy. they also told him about an adjustable height bipod set-up, its not commercial but engineer made, 2 long legs, sit along rifle from forward sling fitting, to nearly the end of the stock, but are adjustable to longer. i will get the name of the company who makes the stocks up soon. cheers irishnut(bandit 1200) Quote Link to post
RicW 67
I admire the guy for not giving up his second favourite sport (after bikes!) Now, I know a lad who left his right leg on the A46. He now runs a VeeDub trike, Porsche lump, automatic gearbox. Mad as a snake and bloody quick! ATB Ric Quote Link to post
danw 1,748
Before he gets a stock made get him to try a rifle with a thumbhole stock he may find he has more control over the rifle. njc110381 0
I'd say he needs one of these..... http://www.snipersystems.co.uk/id50.html Supposedly they can be fired like a pistol so with a long bipod he should do ok? Quote Link to post

ATB Ric THIS FELLA IS AS MAD AS A FLASK OF CHIPS, he rides a norton 850 with side car, all controls are left side set up with a big steering damper. hes been using my rifles, my weirauch has a thumbhole shock, he hates it, its too heavy. the fibreglass stock which can only be got in free floating style will cost him near £500, but will sort him. well hopefully anyway, hes going to get a look at them soon. danebrewer10 6
harris engineering and stoney poind both make bipods for sitting and kneeling use, so around 3@ high, for weight, you can't get much lighter than a Kimber Montana, it weighs I think as I recall 5lb 12oz... now that's a light gun....
