yes ok i was watching springwatch,firstly they was discussing magpies raiding songbird nests,they asked the lovely kate,why should magpies NOT be killed/persecuted,she then went on to explain there is no evidence that magpies affect the population of songbirds what so ever,the proven reasons for their decrease in numbers at times is down to lack of food and weather conditions,i never knew that.

secondly they had a sound clip and the answer to the sound was a snipe,drumming,now iv seen a few snipe over the years but never heard such a strange sound coming from a bird,something to do with vibrating their tail feathers as they are dropping in,have you ever heard a snipe,drumming :thumbs:

You can hear snipe drumming all the time in the north of scotland at this time of year, they will be around boggy areas drumming. The males fly high up and drop quickly making the noise, part of their mating ritual. Eerie noise if you don't know what it is :icon_eek:

Eerie is the word stayed in Stranraer a while back the Loch shore was thick with em what a racket

did anyone see the stoat carry the rabbit up that stone wall...unreal.

saw it mate,incredible little things when you think of the weight they can cope with :thumbs: i still never heard a snipe drumming though,weird sound,i thought it was a natterjack toad when i heard the clip,how far out was i lol
