Pike lures

abu hi-low. shakespere devils own spinners, the ones with the willow blades as apose to the colarado blades. the makerel colour is a good one. salmo sliders perch and roach pattern. sinking and floating(better action on the floating ones. fox mega mouse, and micro mouse haveboth caught me loads of fish. fox runt the big big one, in silver with the black lines on. fox fat boy, and belly buster. fox micro dolphin in citrus burst. and the salmo turbo jack for top water lures, also ondex and mepps spinners, i like anything with red or white on it. you can even add your own wool to the trebbles and sort of customise your spinners.

as a rule for which colour to use it all depends on depth and clarity of the water. but deep water i tend to start off with a sinking lure shinny or metalic blue, count it down till it hits bottom, say 15 secs. have a cast around, if theres nowt doing, cast out and let it sink to 13, then 11 then 9 so you end up covering all depths of water. when you hook a fish you will know what depth they are feeding at.also when fishing floating lures cast out and count to ten before you begin to retreive. the pike hears the splash then has to make its way towards the splash, ive had loads of fish this way before ive even started my retrieve. this will defo improve the catch rate. :thumbs::thumbs:

all the best and tight lines

Thanks for that mate, what is the best way to do the retrieve? Slow, fast, bit of both? stop start? The few pike I have caught have only been small jack pike but wanna try attract a few bigger ones. I used to fish the canal a lot, and the local lake where there is loads of pike, in summer they can be seen basking so I know there defo there but its hard to find where they are and even harder to get one to feed while its basking..

I used to fish the canal a lot, and the local lake where there is loads of pike, in summer they can be seen basking so I know there defo there but its hard to find where they are and even harder to get one to feed while its basking..

on the canal try fishing round boats/boat yards or anywhere people feed the ducks. anybread that gets thrown in to the ducks that they miss sinks to the bottom and attracts bait fish in turn attracting pike. these places become hotspots for pike to feed regularly attracting preyfish, so pike will compete for the feeding rights so the smaller pike will get bullied out or eaten by the bigger fish. on the lake try finding underwater structure snags, submerged trees, or drop offs. pike are ambush preditors, so any where they can hide away and dash out and grab a meal.NEVER IGNORE THE MARGINS. before you move up the bank, always have a couple of casts in the direction you intend to walk. by the time you see a pike basking in the shallow margins, the chances are he has seen you as well. and is more worried about the the possible threat you might pose than feeding.

also try finding a submerged weedbed and starting there with a topwater lure or a subsurface lure, also try all the different retrieves, fast, slow, stop, start until you find what they are most interested in.

also what will happen at some point is you will find a lure, that you think is an absolute banker, and you will think that its the only lure you will need. when this happens its time to put this lure away for a while, cos whats happened is youve worked out how to fish that particular lure to the best of its/your ability. this way you will become more confident with different lures , giving you more scope for every situation/water you come across. also the more you put in the more you will get out, it dosnt matter how many lures you have or what colour they are none of them will catch fish while they are in the shed.

hope this helps mate :victory::victory:

Hi,

Just bought a berkley powerbait blade dancer from game fair.. £2..

Are they anygood for pike?

What lures does everyone else seem to have much success on?

Thanks

Shaun

rapala magnum x lures expensive but the best lures by far.

Thats a bit of a bold statement.. good lure, but not the best. and not by "by far"..

Try the musky mania collection...

Each to there own best lure ive found so far fresh/salt water predators! caught sum big fish with these lures had quite alot of success with the bulldawgs when they first came out but they dont last long after youve had a few fish on em. :thumbs:
