JonathanKent 16
Just watching BBC news and the eye witness was saying the guy had a 'sniper rifle with a massive scope on it' they are saying that over 20 people are dead. Thoughts and feelings go out to all in Whitehaven. Link to post
dave1372 83
I bet the public relations team at BASC and other similar organisations are going to be working over time for the foreseeable future after this! Link to post
RicW 67
We should be getting together NOW to get over the message that we aren't all loonies. If some nutter uses a car to kill people, does society ban private ownership of cars? We really need to be on the case with this. Ric Link to post
murphymax 9
From the news stories it was a shotgun not a firearm. This is the least restricted type of licensed gun in the UK where you do not even have to have a reason to own one (unlike a firearm). It could have been stolen, or it could be legally held I am surprised the journalists haven't said which yet. The trouble is that even though more people are killed with knives than guns in the UK, there will still be a strong knee jerk reaction and the anti-gun lot rubbing there hands with glee. There will be a new law regarding shotguns.... will be same as FAC you will need to apply to buy and get a variation if you want a change, no more buy or sell as you think fit, Guesss who will end up paying for all the variations US !!! In 2008 there were 2,538 people killed as a result of car accidents, so if they are going to ban anything then rifles/shotguns should not be topf of the list !! Link to post

Bit of a difference chaps, I can't ever remember hearing about a guy getting into his car, killing 12 & injuring another 25 on purpose, we need some perspective on this... I reckon shotgun/airgun restriction will be the way they go. If this atrocity was carried out with a legally held FAC rifle, I can't see how they can tighten up the already strict criteria other than by introducing strict medicals. If previous incidents are anything to go by, we're going to be hit with some new reactionary legislation that will only affect the law abiding, no mistake about that... Same here, no offence meant. If every shooter in the UK lost their guns, it would still be nothing compared to the tragedy & pain caused to those directly affected by today's horrific events. Perhaps it's far too early for any of us discuss the wider implications? Lock the thread for a week or so I reckon. Link to post

You are right. There are loved ones dead. I apologise for my first reaction. We should share the grief of those who are left. Then, and only then, can we try to make sure that such grief should never be suffered again. Ric Link to post
