hows his recall during the day?as it needs to be good. just make sure the lamp goes off when he misses his quarry and dont put

it on untill hes back on the slip and as i said if the recall is good u should'nt have much problem matethumbs.gif

his recal is brilliant untill hes say 20 yards away from any quarry. once hes on theres no chance of recal he way to game. my worry is in area's of heavy rabbit population that he'l course one then on the way back be on another obviously with experience he'l get there but is there any little tricks to speed the process up cheers mate

this problems always happens if you take your dog out mooching during the day too much because the dog gets used too hunting up all the time so when its out lamping it finks that its alright to do it then thats why when i learn my pups i take it out ferreting once and if it looks fast enough i get it out lamping straight away and then u have no bother with stuff lyk this and beddy crosses hav a a habbit of hunting up atb Top Lamper

Soon as the eve a little darker take it out to the park with lamp and ball, throw ball in lamp send to retreive till its looking into lamp, then drop ball walk away then lamp on ball and send to retreive. This will take a few evenings once its used to the beam then send to retrieve when there is no ball when the dog arrives in beam switch it off and recall, practice till it comes back as soon as the lamp goes out. First few runs on bunnies pick single squatters with either simple short catch or miss and cross fingers.

regards sandymere.

PS need a retreiving dog first.

I'm not knocking your opinion TOP LAMPER and please dont take offence at the following but mooching with your lurchers during the day will cause no ill affect on their lamping ability as long as they are trained well enough and know the difference between daywork and nightwork.all of my dogs (Labs,Lurchers & Terriers) are exersiced on a large shoot were there is more game and quarry than you could wave a sharp stick at with very few problems.as others have said if his recall is as good as it needs to be to be out lamping then there should be no great problems in him learning the lamp. The main thing is as has been quite righty pointed out as soon as he misses or kills the lamp should be of untill he is back safley on his slip.If you make sure he runs from his slip and not free run he'll soon learn that if he misses the faster he gets back to you and on his slip the faster he'll get another go.

Good luck for the winter
