its like most things, you get what you pay for, my main reason for going cheap was incase the lad/myself didn't get into it, so no great loss really, i'm hoping i/ we do, then better tackle will be bought, if it lasts it lasts, but it was a kit, maybe i'd be better buying used gear

if your looking for a chaep and cheerful way of starting fishin then a starters mackrel setup would be perfect.

give it another month or so and head to a sea side peir where there is high water and for half the cost of that cheap pike gear you can garuntee yourself and your nipper some fish.

if after that ye like the fishing malarky then go into something else.

i got started on mackrel when i was 7 and i think especially for kids it the way to start.

after all being a novice you dont want to start with trying to get treble hooks out of a pike.

as it can be quite daunting.

dont bother buying that pal, get your self down to bob-co's and they'll help you, start with just buying the basic gear but not too cheap thou for what your planning on fishing for, you'll enjoy it and lets hope your better at fishing then you are shooting

i think the setup would be alright if the rods where 3lbtc instead of 2.5

good setup for a beginner i started of with a set like that from argos the reels only lasted a few sessions but the rods were fantastic 2 giant 2.5lb test curve rods infact i still have them and use them more than any other rod i have there light and thick set with good eyes and reel seat any problems with rigs etc just pm me and ill point you in the right direction
