Pignut 4
Well, question in the title really. Where do you keep your terrier - in the house or in a kennel? Is your terrier part of the family, ie a pet or a worker or both? Thanks Pignut Quote Link to post

jacko 1
HI , WE KEEP OUR DOGS INDOORS . WE VISIT THE OLD MAN WE GOT MY BORDER FROM AS OFTEN AS WE CAN BECAUSE ME MAM AND DAD HAVE GOT MATES WITH HIM NOW AND I'VE NOTICED HIS BORDERS HAVE A BETTER COAT THAN MY DOG HAS ,SHE HAS A GOOD COARSE COAT BUT HIS DOGS HAVE REALY HARSH JACKETS . HIS DOGS NEVER GET INDOORS , JUST WONDERING IF SITTING INFRONT OF THE FIRE AND HAVING CENTRAL HEATING CAN GIVE THE DOGS A WEAKER COAT . PROBABLY A STUPID QUESTION BUT ITS BEEN BUGGING ME FOR AGES. Pignut 4
Well I would have thought so. If you rug up a horse or keep it in a stable, it does not grow a winter coat so I would think the same applies for dogs. Quote Link to post
jigsaw 11,899
I have a bull terrier thats worked for the last 7 years and she sleeps in the sitting room, goes out by day and in by night, shes a fairly wicked bitch when shes worked up but a pleasure in the house, wont move from her bed unless called.I can put my dinner on the floor and she wont touch it unless I tell her to,shes been worked hard for the time shes been here and is now retired and will enjoy the comforts of the fire till she kicks the bucket. Without a doubt, Most dogs who live in kennels have really nice thick coats. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Always kept my Dogs in doors with me. Otherwise I see it as like having an alarm system which ye set up down the road somewhere ....! My latest terrier sleeps in my bed, with me and my other two Dogs. (Fourth Dog's simply too big for the single futon. I'll probably end up buying a double, so he can get in there too. Keeps me warm!) Worker or moocher about the house, I have them indoors. I don't subscribe to this shit about they're " Tools". A hammer's a tool. Chuck it in the shed and forget about it, it'll still drive a nail at the weekend. Dogs are living, thinking, emotional things. They're pack animals. Keep them around ye and ye bond better than a hammer. Get to know each other and thus get better responses when out and about. That's how I see it anyway. Be looking foreward to seeing this one expand. Wish I had more time to think and say more. Hope to be on satellite Broad Band by the end of the year. Join in better then! lone wolf 0
mine are outside in there kennel and run with the ferrets keeps them healthy Quote Link to post
bshadle 5
My vote's with Ditch. Mine stay inside and sleep in the bed when we invite 'em, in the corner of the bedroom otherwise. Will admit though, just starting to evaluate the current ones as hunters. Keeping them outside was more popular in times past, supposed to make them tougher and hardier. My dad always kept the pets inside and the hunters outside. I've almost always kept mine indoors, and found that as long as they got plenty of outdoor time and exercise they didn't suffer as hunters. The key is making sure they get that outdoor time. Heck, if I spent all my time stretched out on the sofa, I'd be even more worthless than I am. That being said, the only time I'd seriously fault a man for keeping dogs in a decent outside kennel is if he had only one and kept it outside all by itself. Take away a dog's pack and it'd be kinder to shoot it. Quote Link to post
FastDogz 155
Agree with Ditch...Then again im female so probabaly more soppy anyway :11: I have a mate who keeps 2 track greys in his house as pets (only races them for fun)...And hes also got a ritired one aged 13 :thumbs-up: I see no problem with outdoor dogs as long as the beds are clean and big..and the finer lurchers/greys have coats in winter And plenty of human company/exercise. I would have thought though a dog living inside will bond more thus work better... I may be wrong. Quote Link to post
Guest Eamon.Mc
Working dogs outside, if you want a pet then ok keep it indoors, but each to their own I suppose. Quote Link to post
