medic1281 5
Just got back from a drive across to the east midlands to collect my new rifle. Its an anschutz 1517 with ASE utra mod. Off out to zero it now! Feel like a kid at Christmas! Surely i'm not the only one to get excited about a new gun? Anyway, off out to see how I get on! I'll let you know how it goes. matt_hooks 188
EVERYONE loves a new toy! You going to shoot it in properly? One shot, then spray with copper solvent and leave for 24 hours, then pull through and repeat. Do this five times, then you can start shooting! 1 Quote Link to post
Tobias 0
Nice choice of gun but which model did you get? ive recently got the 1517 with the thumbhole stock and 14" barrel great gun and so light and small ive now had to get a wildcat whisper mod on mine which seems fairly good but early days yet and i think my old scope on it might be on its way out. When i first zeroed it i aws hitting 10p groups with ease off the bipod at 100yards but now its wondering a bit as i said the scope could be on its way out. Quote Link to post

Hi Matt, Thanks for the advice but the rifle is second hand and had a few hundred rounds through her already. Having said that she is in perfect condition! Had a couple of hours out with her tonight, zeroed at 100yds and had 3 bunnies already. I'm happy with that as i'm not used to her yet! Its the 1517 with thumbhole stock and 18" barrel. I chose it as the stock is the same as my 1417 .22lr so I thought it would already feel natural to shoulder. The 1417 is only a 14" barrel and the mod on the 1517 is alot heavier so the balance is quite a bit different but i'm sure i'll get used to it. Might put the heavier mod on the short barrel .22 and the SAK on the 17hmr, that might help get the balance similar. Think I need to play with the scope a bit though, eye relief isn't quite right yet, but i've all day tomorrow to sort that! Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
I would leave the scopes as they are, will help to remind you which rifle you are shooting as they might shoot very differently! I was joking about shooting her in properly, I've never met anyone who has the patience to wait a week before playing with a new rifle yet! Quote Link to post
