HARES (pre-ban)

If you couuld only have one dog to work hares (pre-ban) in small fields what would everyones ideal dog be, i was thinking a whippet/greyhound x collie/greyhound. what cross would you have?

whippet/grey first cross or 3/4 whippet grey did the trick for us on our small fields ..from what i saw on our fields when we had a lot of hares the saluki hybrids didn't really have the pace to get to the hare quick enough unless they were used mob handed ..

Had a 3/4 whippet gru a few years back, very good single handed didn't like running with another dog,would hang back.

first x saluki grey.

 

seen a few saluki/greyhounds run the small fields and they took to long to get into there stride and reach top gear for the fields around here

 

 

my mates got a 5/8 grey 3/8 saluki very quick lots of stay

i got a 1st cross saluki grey and he is good in the big feild but i find my 5/8 whippet 1/4 greyhound 1/8 beddlington much better in the smaller fields. she got the intial burst of speed and the agaility too stay on the quarrys backside.
