poacher3161 1,766
I would sooner get them and sell them at 8 weeks were if they have been reared properly they should be free of round worms and a change in diet if you have to does not seem to upset their stomach like it does when their 2 week younger which imho is a big difference at that age. dj-sy 3
i would say 8 weeks mate cause the pups shouldnt leave the mother till that age Quote Link to post
Guest deerhound hunter
MY LAST LITTER, 12 WEEKS Quote Link to post
watchman 256
i know the norm is prob 8 weeks, but did have a bitch at 6 weeks many years ago, bitch stuck to me like glue throughout her life, and was the best dog i ever had,not sure if its age had anything to do with it though, and yes it was a bit early, but opportunity/circumstance, and all that came into play Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Like has been said before - 8 weeks is probably best or the pup will miss out on vital socialization with its litter mates and dam, however sometimes having a pup at six weeks due to unavoidable circumstance can make it really stick to you for exactly the above reason . . . . but it can also make it a bit socially retarded. . . . . . in a doggy kind of way. Casso 1,261
i try to get pups at 6 weeks , simply because i want to put my own stamp on them, i like to handle them well from the word go ,a pup confident with people is so much easier to work with, also the bitch can leave lasting imprinted behaviors on pups if she's a little nervous and scatty, saying that i completely understand what ideation has mentioned on here, and it will need to be well socialised with other dogs as it grows,,but you also find at that age that you get to see all the pups, because lads are looking for them later, so there's a good chance of getting your pick of the litter, in saying that, i would be looking for the most ballsy pup on the litter, getting a shy pup later at say 12 weeks , is not as easy to work with, and seem to take offence much quicker , sometimes with long lasting results,, Quote Link to post
