pockets 0
Great thread fellas, really enjoying it Just a question from somebody whos only seen deer taken on dvd Will some dogs take the smaller CWD, munties and roe and pull up when taking fallow, sika or red? Historically speaking? i have'nt seen any pull up but i've seen a few good "roe" dogs really struggle to get a good hold on a fallow, let alone stop it, or bring it down even Thanks Lucky, I've just read Jackie Drakefords new book and she describes fallow as "not particually fast" and roe "not particually fast in the open" and a story about a pair of border terriers that "wrought havooc on ther local roe population". Who needs lurchers  :11: Jackie Drakesford is probly married to Sean Frain NOT FAST have you seen a fallow take off????????? Roe ditto these are the Porsches of the animal kingdom what a load of poo! Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
but then there still roe ...i would like to try my dog on a fallow just for a chang just watch what your doing, should you try it, i know a couple of lad's that have refused to slip their dogs on fallow, and they were good roe deer dog's, until they stopped running due to the ban.....the sheer size of them fallow, apparantly a doe will weigh in at about 100lb and a good buck, twice that. salukiX 12
my dog is 271/2 inch and has got the hart of a lion an a good roe and fox dog befor the ban i think he would giv a fallow a run for it's money... and for a salukiX he gets tor in Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
im not saying DONT run them mate just sayin they are big beast's, try to single out a nice doe, it could be quite hard to single one out though as they can be in herds upto 20-30 maybe more Quote Link to post

Guest bezza
Two years ago I crossed a deerhound ( from good coursing lines) with a golden eagle. I am determined that when that fat fella invades my airspace his bleedin reindeer will get what's coming to them. My dog can hunt fly and carry. There is going to be an awful lot of disappointed kiddies this year. If you live in my part of the woods-Scotland check out the skies on Xmas eve-there will be more than Rudolph's nose that will be coloured red. This bird/dog is only interested in certain bitches. They must be flighty. Stud fee negotiable. Quote Link to post
Guest oldskool
i dont know the rules about coursin deers at all but it is somethin i would have loved to have a go at..... is there anywhere you can go over here that will let you hunt deer??? Quote Link to post
witton 6
oldskool, im not certain on this but i think over there you can run deer anywhere as long as its day time and you have permision from the land owner. So get out there check out any decent woodland and if it holds deer give the farmer a knock on the door Quote Link to post
Guest oldskool
thats just what i wanted to hear ... theres a place about a 1/2 hour drive away but its all forestry, would i have to wait until they came into surrounding fields or is there any chance of gettin permission from the forestry folk??? the other thing i am clueless about is the type of deer they are, i think its roe!...... on second thought i would better find out a bit more about it before i go blundering off Quote Link to post
