AzMaN 0
A bout 4 months ago i brought a used remington 700sps (heavy barrel and crapy stock) ive since changed the trigger and stock and now it shoots like a dream on the range but theres a catch, its soooooooo heavy especialy with a t8 on the end. So i have a choice, i can either: sell my current .223 and get a sporter for lightness in the field, change the empty 22lr on my ticket for a .223 and have one for target and one for field, or stick with my current one and man up a bit. or i can go for a totaly differnt caliber (although id rather not as i have the dies, cases and heads for .223 already) i know at the end of the day its only me that can make the choice, but what would you do?? basinator 0
hi there buddy, its seems to me that your've already made your mind up and deep down you want a change of gun,and i dont blame you for wanting something a little lighter for the field........so yes if i were you id look for something else, perhaps a tikka t3 light would be better,....plus it means you can go shopping again and thats always good when going gun shopping,...let us know what you decide. dave1372 83
.....what the helll go for another calibre if you can afford it Quote Link to post
CharlieT 32
As it's a shooter I would keep it and have the fun of putting together a light sporter. If your new one turns out to be as good a shooter as the other you can then decide weather or not to keep the heavy one. Never part with an accurate rifle until it's replacement has proved itself. clint 45
me , i would. If do 300 target round keep target rifle, if no ,is not use enough. Buy sporter, browning X or A bolt 223. If need bigger calibre buy 6.5 swede/ 270/303 maybe for hunt. Quote Link to post
oxo 495
Going through the same thing myself with my 308 Howa, i bought the stainless varmint with laminate stock weighs around 10lb, cracking rifle for the rang but heavy for lugging about stalking. I have since put a stock on from Edi at PSE Composites and i am going to get the barrel chopped, the rifle then will be around 8lb bare, easily manageable especially with a niggeloh backpack sling, if you like it keep it. AzMaN 0
rifle as it is (Rifle, scope and mod) weighs in at 12.8lb, which is a shade under 6kg, am i being a bit of a wimp here?? Its got a 26" barrel on it and with the t8 makes it about 28". i mainly use this rifle as a long range rabbit gun (100-250 yards) with the odd fox and a bit of target although the target isnt vital i have a 6.5x55 mauser for that purpose. unless i get it re-barreled?? danebrewer10 6
man up? rubbish, there's no point in beasting yourself, get a sporter style rifle, it'll be just as accurate for foxing, go for one of the established brands, tikka, sako, steyr, kimber even they look good, plus it's be much nicer to carry about, you'll just have to shoot fewer shots at the range before allowing the rifle to cool down that's all... or go chop the 6" off the end! i bet that'll lose a pound or so! Cheers DB Quote Link to post

The rifle bare only weighs 8 1/2lb according to the specs, i think you might be better off getting 6 inches lopped off the barrel to improve the balance, i know the sps Tacticals have a 20" tube. What stock have you put on the rifle? When i was a kid i used to tramp for hours carrying a HW80 (weighed a ton), all shots were free standing and i never complained, know i am just a moaning old fart!! Quote Link to post
