Rik 49
I really need some help guys. My pup is now all but 8 months old and she is killing rats in a fashion. She doesn't seem to have any aggression in her when she's on them, she doesn't hit them hard, it just f##ks about with them, they hang off her face which doesn't bother her and she gives them a little shake to throw them off and then casually barks at them and grabs the tail or its flank or where ever as long as the rat is moving. If the rat stops still the dog stops its casual attack and then when it moves again off she goes again. She takes what seems like for ever to despatch. She's got a good nose on her she marks rats and rabbits but it's so laid back, not a full on "I hate rats" approach. I've been out and seen other young dogs of her age with rats and they hate them and mean business. Anyhow what I want to know is, is this normal or is the dog no good. Will she eventually get there/show more aggression and shall I keep it or get rid while it's still young and the old girl down the road thinks its "OH SO CUTE"? I want and need working terriers all my dogs have to earn there keep Quote Link to post

They are still pups at 8 months. Have you got mates who are involved in proper terrier work that will show you the ropes? Best of luck with it. Quote Link to post

GILLYDOG 18
give it a bit more time mate, its still young and will learn its trade and come on each time you go out.make sure you give the pup plenty encouragement and praise while and after each kill,in time it will learn to love the game.if you can get someone with an experienced terrier to go out with you that will bring the pup on,just remember its just a pup and give it time.all the best Quote Link to post
