Lee85 44
Hi people, basically i've got hold of my uncle's ye olde Webley Osprey .22 air rifle, it's definatley seen better days but he just has it up at his alotment for vermin but isn't happy with how it's shooting and it's looks so i've offered to take it to mine and give it a spruce up, I've already stripped it and oiled it in all the general places but theres some rust on the barrel and other places that need attention, here are some pics of the beauty: This is my first restoration project so I have a few questions: Is emery cloth ok to rub down the rust? - If not what should I use (any makes/brands?) Is it okay to rub down the stock with a very light grade of sandpaper to get a key to varnish over? Can anyone reccomend me a nice varnish to redo the stock with? Cheers! slingshot82 32
The rust looks pretty bad on the barrel mate, I would start using a bit of light oil and some wire wool, It really depends how far you want to go. Do you want to re blue the action? Or are you just going to clean it up as best you can? As for the stock, I would take it back to the bare wood, paint stripper then various grades of wet and dry until the colouring has gone. Rub down again with fine wet and dry, then go over it with wire wool. Personally I would re stain the stock and then oil it. Looks better than varnish IMO, and easier to get a good finish. All the best with the restoration buddy Kyle Quote Link to post

Lee85 44
I've gone ahead and bought: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TITAN-XS-Mainspring-BSA-Webley-Weihrauch-Air-Arms-GAMO-/330432230475?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item4cef4bb44b Hopefully that'll do the trick for him, it's funny because I could here the spring moving when it wasn't cocked, something was rattling and i'm guessing it's snapped in the there Quote Link to post
