sambo123 676
I know most of the time it's completely random but i wondered what results (color wise) people on this site have had from putting a Sandy colored Hob over a Polecat jill? Thanks, Sambo123 Quote Link to post

fensaluki 35
My polecat Jill was lined again this year by my sandy Hob.She has had 8 kitts 4 dark polecat and 4 that look to be Sandy. The same two ferrets mated last year with simlar results. she had seven kitts and I think it was 4 polecats and 3 sandys but it may have been the other way round(me old memory isn't what it was) ATB Quote Link to post
romany52 313
It all depends what genes the polecat is caring, if the polecat is homogeneous, meaning it caries two polecat colour genes, then all the offspring will be polecat coloured as the wild colour gene is dominant to sandy. The polecat or the sandy can be heterogeneous meaning it caries two different colour genes ,in which case the polecats gene could be paired with any colour gene recessive to polecat, and like wise the sandy, so unless you know the genetic make up of the parents it's impossible to predict. droid 11
That's assuming that ferret colour genes follow Mendelian principles. Ie one gene one colour. Only thing you can guarantee is that you'll get ferrets. Quote Link to post
The one 8,530
I think you will get some of every colour ,you have a albino x polecat already for the sandy and adding etxra polecat genes you will end up with mostly polecats a few sandies and a odd albino Quote Link to post
