A successful evening

Recommended Posts

Out tonight to complete stalk #2 for DSC2. A pleasant stalk, despite the wind, through a nice valley where a good sized buck wanders out at 40yds. He hadn't seen me and the wind was quartering so I didn't have long to get the sticks deployed and get on it. He was licking his nose a lot, sensing something on the wind and then he move about two paces before lifting his head for another sniff. BANG! A 140 grain Nosler partition dropped him on the spot, not even a kick, nice  .

He was a nice size with a good interesting head. The gralloch went smoothly and all was good. Just one more to go...

Head shots are not to be condoned is the wording of the new paper.Though the ONLY recomended shot is the boiler house/chest.

A neck shot at 40m's wouldn't be cause for me to worry if witnessing a client.

If the rifle was proved empty and safe on the photos before it was taken niether would that as long as immediatly afterwards it was made to be seen to be empty.

I personally dont like a photo with the bolt back or removed.

If the maagazine was emptied and the rifle was shown to be safe I'd be happy.

But this was all thrashed out on the S.D. some time ago.

As long as it was laid like that just for the photo and WAS in a safe state(proved 2 all there) I think it makes a far better photo with the bolt in and shut.

Thanks for the comments John, yes the mag was empty and rifle proven clear all as part of the assessment process, not that I have to justify myself as competent with firearms to anyone on here. Let's not jump to conclusions wireviz. Neck shots are fine for DSC, when the conditions and range make them achievable, and they are preferable on the estate where possible, 41 yds (LRF) is well within my ability 8) .
