brilliant picture my beagle marked a big adder last week but it did'nt hang around long enough for a pic :clapper:

My area is famous for adders and about three years ago I came across one sunbathing on the path in front of me. It was matt black but ,this will sound strange, I could still make-out the marks on its back which somehow appeared blacker . Of course I had no camera but I watched it for about ten minutes .

That is a truly brilliant photo: :clapper::clapper: how far were you from the snake? We used to have loads round here but I haven't seen one since bad floods in early spring a few years back. I reckon they must have drowned whilst hibernating.

I was about as close as i could be without engaging the close-up mode of the camera .Less than a couple of feet away I guess but she was getting twitchy so i did'nt push my luck and disturb her more than I had too.

Thanks for the comment . One of my better efforts amongst the dozens of failures . For instance a couple of days ago I was crouched ready to try for a picture of badger cub that was snuffling up a track towards me . Quite out of the blue another cub burst through the hedge beside me and froze in surprise . I was so taken aback I pressed the "off" button instead of the shutter !
