first x saluki grey

Recommended Posts

i have just bred a litter of first crosses all sold within 24 hrs of advert coming out some to very well known coursing men so they obviously know something that the ones knocking them dont .also one wemt to a gamekeeper for allround work biglicks and his dad had one years ago that was top class and as good as they have had his words.so that tells me they must have something going for them.the pup i have kept for myself will hopefully meake a real un .WHY because it will be entered slowly with patience and when starting only put on something i know it should catch and when started will have all the easy slips i can find it.and be out every chance i get . watch this space.

boyo in ther day the were good but not as good as my saluki lurcher to lurcher on hares , but as an allround dog they are good and a good place to further your cross, and well if you sold them all fair play but ive saw better lurcher to lurcher , for hares, than my first cross but i never got him for hares ,any way you will sell them as there no wastage most are good enough for most guys , but what i notice as they never boxed hares never hedged them ,some through lite like a saluki and were not powerful enough for me at times , but good enough and some were not as fast as others in the litter ,there good dogs for sure but not as good as purpose bred winner to winner thats been bred to catch hares ,if you course and have had good saluki type bred for the job then you see your first cross youll see the diffrence i did ,mind you i lamped and coursed mines ,the best dogs have always been saluki lurcher proven one to proven bitch , stands to reason

can see where your coming from with lurcher to lurcher but and its a big but work out how many of the lurcher to lurcher saluki type are bred in a year. thousands and only the odd one or two make it as really top class .compare it to how many genuine first cross are bred in a year not many at all in fact they are quite rare so you can never compare them on a fair percentage wise .and lets be honest boys cos ive seen it myself over the years a lot of saluki x saluki crosses are useless and dont make it same as any other cross of lurcher.

Very good point mate. they have the same potential to make world beaters ( or not ) as any other cross and you do tend to find that most of the knockers have never owned one because off what they have heard. entering these dogs in the correct way and plenty of patience is the key as you quite rightly say.

Taffybull....I'll get some pics up of my 1st cross and his son for you as soon as i can get them onto this new laptop mate.

any body running a 1st x sal/grey? if so put you pics up, really like this cross ov dog, cheers

My first dog was a first cross Saluki/Grey. She was an absolute belter. As fast a dog as I've seen, I'd often bring her out with a bullxhound and she actually thought she was one.

The only difficulty I came across was that she was very fragile.

rio hogg how am i slagging the man off ive had first crosses who were good but not as clever on a hare as good saluk lurcher to saluk lurcher they didnt hedge a hare like a bitch i have hear ,or tied it in knots , if the chance was giving ,mate bred 12 pups they were all handy ,and i would have another, but i think you can produce a better dog with well bred lurcher to lurcher mate maybe im wrong ,i had some fun with the first crosses and caut bags of game ,but diffrent from well bred purpose bred dogs by far

my saluki grey x bull grey is out of a genuine 1x sal grey the lad who bred him had 2 litter brothers, they were both smooth haired well built and to me looked like they threw more greyhound looking, the one he used to sire the bull grey was the quicker one that done better at daytime and had more speed, the other one was the better lamping dog he said they were totally different but both done all game
