my first fox ever

Recommended Posts

so i thought i might sit in the hedge one night with my pigeon hide set up waiting for rabbits to imerge.

sure enough rabbits started comin out of the hedge one by one. i picked a few off with my air rifle for the quiet factor and i had my shot gun with me for back up!

all was quite when this fox started to make it's way towards an opening in the hedge not 10 meters from me. i have never squelled for a fox befor but off i went squelling away and the fox started bounding towards me. i grabbed my shotgun trying to be quiet and keep the squelling going! i could not beleive how much this fox wanted in. it got within 10ft of me i stood up and bang! nailed it! i had full choke's in for the rabbits so the fox got a facefull.

its a hard call. me personally wont shoot a adult fox this time off year because off the cubs . but have no prob shooting cubs u should go back take a experienced rifle man or terrier man have a look about for a cub hole missing its vixen and destroy the cubs. only my personal view but if rabbit shooting most im seeing are about 1/4 grown not much eating on them not wait couple off months then have big eatable rabbits hard to beat unless ur overrun with them atb

watch it .... finger off the trigger... simple! it is called ethics!

as pointed out, the proper thing to do now would be looking for the cubs and shoot them one by one.

It actually is not that hard, to find fox cubs this time of year as the area around the hole looks like a playground. now either wait and shoot the cubs with a .22 or preferably shotgun, then trap the holes... that is not only more effective than taking an occasional adult vixen with a fang full of mice and 10 hungry cubs waiting, it is the right thing to do.
