november 2
Hi I'm considering buying the Nikko Stirling Nighteater 4-16x50 ill. Mildot to put on my Anschütz .222 Main use would be shooting foxes, badgers and raccoon dogs on stubbles at dusk and dawn, the occasional crow or magpie out to 250metres and roe deer. Any opinions and experiences with this scope? Quote Link to post
Rain 232
ive got the illuminated mount master mate and i cant fault that and the nighteater is twice as good so i cant see why ya would have a problem Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Just checked your location. Good job you're not in the UK, as you're not allowed to use anything like that on deer in the UK. From what I've seen they're good scopes, see if you can borrow one and try it out first! Quote Link to post

Yeah, good job indeed, as I am also allowed to carry this piece of tupperware while hunting: Are you guys in the UK even allowed anywhere near these? Quote Link to post
HUnter_zero 58
Are you guys in the UK even allowed anywhere near these? Once upon a time....... but not anymore..... That's wheat happens when a bunch of ignorant people have the power to make laws, ignorant laws prevail. WE can have a .308 rifle, which can kill for over a mile but not a hand gun which is useless much past 30 yards. Any way, back on track. If I were based in your location I doubt I'd be looking for Nikko scopes. Surely there must be many second hand Zeiss or Swarovski scopes in the guns shops? I'm just guessing that the prices would be much lower than that in the UK. I've picked up a few Khales scopes from Germany (second hand) for a combined price of less than a new NIkko scope. Although I do think that Nikko have come on in leaps over the last few years, with their green turret Diamond scopes being very good indeed. I have to admit to not liking "illuminated" battery powered things on my rifles, but that's just personal preference, never seen the point. John Quote Link to post

John older second hand Zeiss or Swaro still are either pricy or not exactly what I am looking for, as I can't quite use a 6x42 with German #reticle. As to the illuminated reticle - I did and will do a lot of hunting in low light conditions where it is really helpful to know where your reticle is, especially with foxes. With boar or a roe deer you can sort of "guess" and a shot accidently placed a few centimeters off is still deadly but with smaller targets as foxes or badgers, there is not much room for guessing. HUnter_zero 58
I have only ever owned one Nikko scope, a 4-12x50 and it was superb. As I say, I think that the scopes have come on in leaps and bounds these days but as with most things "you pays your money and takes your chances and get just a little less than you thought you would". I'm not sure what the price is of the scope scope you were looking at but you also have options like Meopta, S&B & Khales. John Quote Link to post

John Thanks for the input, I can get the scope for 210€ new from a dealer which is a pretty good price I reckon. 200-250€ is the price range I am willing to pay.. I actually use a 3-12x56 meopta on my .308 and I am absolutely satisfied with it - but I just don't see me spending 700€ on a scope for a .222 Quote Link to post

HUnter_zero 58
I actually use a 3-12x56 meopta on my .308 and I am absolutely satisfied with it - but I just don't see me spending 700€ on a scope for a .222 I can remember when Meopta was mostly unknown here in the UK and the prices were very reasonable indeed. I can understand what your saying about the .222, just my point of view has always been that no matter how accurate the rifle is or how well I am shooting on the day, if the scope isn't 100% then one day things are bound to go wrong. Some other options might be a Tasco Titan, the older models are rock solid, Tasco Euro class is another seriously solid tasco. Simmons Whitetail classic (the ones with the granite finish) are very good scopes for the money and can be purchased for less than £200. Again, I've nothing against Nikko scopes, my experience was that the one I had was cheap but reliable. John Quote Link to post
