had a day out after the tope last weekend ,had one nice female, a small male and a load of smoothhounds

 

 

has anyone had any mackeral off the north wales coast yet ?

Hi mate, nice tope are you getting them in the same area with the smoothies just interested,

 

according to friend mine in angelsey they getting low numbers of mackeral south side of puffin

yeah catching the tope and smoothies in the same area but we were using traces of different lengths on 100lb nylon.the shorter traces of 3 foot caught bull huss and doggies,4 foot caught bull huss doggies and the tope and 6foot trace only caught smooth hounds....we were using squid as bait on 100 lb nylon to an 8/0 hook...i,m not sure what the fish weighed as we have no scales but i,m guesing at 30 odd pound...all returned alive

is that a large female for your area? are the tope there in good numbers yet?

not a massive fish for the area but nice to catch...theres been a lot caught around the 35 mark recently...just nice to get out on the boat after a long winter..good day flat calm ,red hot and a fish every drop ...we probaly had about 15 smooth hounds which is better thasn catching doggies..i learnt something as well about the length of trace..
