lifelong cumbrian 1,829
I like devon minnows, i use the steel ones from 3/4" up. Had a few salmon on 1" ones when fishing for trout. I like to fish them upstream. Dont know if you know this but you can get them with the vanes going clockwork and anti-clockwork if you alternate them it stops line twist. Quote Link to post

I use them for the first time in 25years last backend and found they out fish mepp's on the river wear. The type I used were a lead line plastic tube (like a parker pen shape) about 1.5 inchs long either brown/gold or blue/silver and weight about 5 gr. They are difficult to cast because that had the habbit of catching your line. I have not been able to find any in tackle shops and only see them on ebay rarely. Then nearist I have found is the spey sprat from the Devonminnow shop on the net but they not weighted and don't seem to spin as quick. Can anyone HELP? What you are using by the description is a quill minnow mate not a devon minnow. you're right about them being rare though. if you find a supply buy as many as you can afford or learn to make them, its not too difficult but you need a ready supply of swan/goose quills. atb alan.
