johnboy19 38
I have been shooting airguns and ferreting for about a year and a half now, and have a few permissions, and working on some others. Im wanting to apply for my SGC in the next year maybe, and maybe my FAC, as it looks like the Scottish airgun ban might be getting closer. I already have a cabinet in my house as my mum and dad are foster carers so the guns need to be locked up. I dont know anything about the spec of the cabinet. Am i right in saying that cabinets need to fit certain regulations etc? And would the rifles and shotguns need to be kept in different cabinets? Cheers, John Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
John, You will often see things such as "Police Approved 100%" and "Conforms to British Standard BS1111..." etc. However, your cabinet does not necessarily have to have that specification, it could be over it or under it. The British Standard is there, just as the name suggests, a standard for the industry to aim for. In the majority of cases these days, almost all cabinets conform to it. What you have to do is satisfy the FEO that your cabinet is secure enough to keep Shotguns and/or Rifles in. Can you describe the cabinet in a little more detail? I take it its made of steel, how many and what locks are on it? How is it secured to your premises etc. In ideal circumstances, an FEO is realistically looking for a cabinet that conforms to the British Standard (2mm steel I believe) and is secured to a load bearing wall i.e. one that is made of brick or stone, and attached with suitable expanding bolts so that it is secure from being prized of jemmied off the wall with any ease. johnboy19 38
At the moment its not secured, just hidden, but there are a good few decent places in my house where it can be secured out of sight. I dont know much about the cabinet but will have a look tomorrow and get back to you. To be honest i think its a shotgun cabinet as my rifle, scoped, doesnt really sit in it comfortably, it sits in at a bit of an angle. Its has 2 basic locks on it, one top and one bottom, which use different keys, and i have 2 of each. Ill get back to you tomorrow and ill have a look and see if i can see what make it is etc John Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Sounds like your standard shotgun cabinet, of which the majority will be fine when properly secured Quote Link to post
