I spend a lot of time in Kaikoura and do a bit of pig hunting, but Im currently working in Germany - In thirty years I have never heard of a pig attacking a cow.

Thats because its bullshit, the cow would have been dead first had it had its guts torn out, the ones we dump as bait around here normally dont get eaten till they are going/gone off and there are a lot of hogs around me

In the right country, dead cattle are great bait to bring in a boar. Seems to be more effective in some areas than others and we think it is a mineral deficiency thing. In some country it is automatic that if you drop a scrub bull you will get a boar on it when the bull is 'ripe'. Boars don't open up a bull (or a cow) like you think they might. They wait for it to decay to super soft or it is opened up by something else.

Ned Ive found that too I've tended to think it was due to the amount of natural feed about like if they are around crops they will eat the crop over the dead cow of sheep, also in the colder months here baits wont work so well unless they have been dropped earlier in the summer and had time to go off
