Went for a goosey goosey tonight, didnt go to far as (A) it was very warm and (B) I had some tinnys in the fridge that needed necking as I had spent most of the day in the garden. I called in at the wood for a look about but retreated after 10 minutes due to the fact I was wearing shorts and the stingers are darned hot at the moment, walked around the boundaries and spotted a young un in the grass, stalked up to him and let him have it large,I just got back to the van and saw a head and ears above the docks,I put the crosshairs on his eye and KERPANGI saw his eye pop out through the scopes.I wanted to do a Phantom CSI but didn't want to spoil my tea when I got home so took a snap for forensic evidence.Todays results...................

I had to was all my hunting gear today two full cycles in the washer with no detergent or softner

I know bunnies can whiff a human at 100 yards, but after the way they scattered in the cemy yesterday, I figured me and my kit was a little overpowering for their delicate little noses :icon_redface:

Was hoping to go shooting tomorrow myself in the new permission and bag a corvid or two  but a mate range me and apparently I'm to go fishing with him tomorrow :wallbash:

I like a days fishing now and again, but I'd rather be shooting

You aimed at the Rabbits eye ???

Did you puposely want to injure the RABBIT ???

All the advice given when a newbire asks about rabbit shooting is a brain shot, an eye shot is a bad headshot as It's a non lethal area.

Ok so it does kill a rabbit as you have shown but not the best thing to boast about.

I shoot rabbits & aim at a non lethal area.

I shoot Rabbits in a non lethal area & boast about it.

Every one to their own but if you was my shooting buddy, you wouldn't be for long.

This gives the area for a rabbits kill zone.

If you can hit a non lethal area then you can also hit a lethal area.

Bad practice to start with, not good in many others mind & if anti's wanted any ammunition for banning air guns the RSPCA would love this.

Air gunners maim innocent animals.

The papers are full of stuff like that & you boast about it ?

Thanks but no thanks.

Kill Zone for a Rabbit.

Hey Scarecrow,

There is no need to lecture Archie like that in the open forum buddy is there?

If you look at picture 2 you will see that the pellet went in the eye of the bunny and out the top of its head between the 2 ears causing a perfect brain shot.

It’s obvious to me that the shot was taken at a 45 angle to the way the bunny was facing, and was also probably taken with the bunny on an incline to where Archie was, hence the exit wound.

You can’t always shoot a rabbit side ways on; sometimes you need to shoot them in the back of the head or the front of their fore head to reach the brain and hit the kill zone.

Remember mate the kill zone is the BRAIN itself not the side of the rabbits head as people think.

It doesn’t matter from which angle you hit the rabbit’s 1 inch brain (kill zone) from mate as long as you hit it and the rabbit dies humanely.

Yes I agree mate it’s not a shot that a newbie should attempt and it’s not a shot we would ever suggest to a new hunter.

I don’t think Archie was boasting about the shot mate. I think he was just being honest and knew his own capability.

He could have said he shot the bunny in the top of its head and the pellet exited the rabbit’s eye but he didn’t.

He knows what he is doing so the shot would have been humane with him knowing that the pellet would end up in the bunny’s brain like it did.

If it wasn’t he wouldn’t have taken the shot I’m sure.

I stand by Archie, and I’m sure there are other lads on here too that have made these type of shot only because they were sure where the pellet would end up.

On a normal day and in perfect conditions we all would love a sideways on shot at our zero range.

Thing is though as you know mate its hardly ever perfect that way.

Maybe I worded it a bit wrong but my main gripe still stands.

It's the headlines, not the full description that causes grief.

A newbie will see shot in eye & dead, they may not fully take in other comments & descriptions.

They will also see the often quoted head shots advice, put two & two together = wrong advice.

Antis, we all know how quickly they can twist bad words, totally ignore good words.

Not a direct rant at the poster for shooting like that, more of please choose words a little carefully, especialy topic lead in words & topic descriptions.

As a HMR user I know what half a rabbits head looks like.

As a newbie with a shotgun years ago I also thought the large rabbit is long range so I allso know what half a short range young rabbit looks like.

Every shot is different & judgement needed to take a clean shot.

Just remember who might be reading.
