Guest JohnGalway
What a night My mate arrived down to my house just after 7pm and off we went spinning around the area. I was spotting out the passenger window for him. It took a while in the start but persistance paid off, after lamping pretty much an entire island we spotted a pair of eyes on a sheep farm near the house itself. We got set up and the caller came on. She started coming in like a train but stopped short behind a large rock, not presenting a safe shot. After a minute or two she snuck off and we stayed in that spot for another few minutes but saw nothing. Just as we were passing the other side of the farmhouse who did we spy Pair of eyes then turned broadside and a nice fox in the lamp. Moving left to right she was in or around 100 yards from us, I kept the beam near but not on her, stopped for a second BANG and down went vikky Great shooting by my mate! (No pictures of this one as a guy I know came out from the house to see the results, so we got a bit sidetracked talking) Fox number two was spotted from a road running through a bogland hilly area. This one was a bit trickier as we were'nt exactly prepared for it to show so near to us and after some fumbling around with the caller on she trotted off over a hillock and didn't look back. We were a bit annoyed by that, vowed to do better next time as we'll see... We drove maybe 200 yards or so on from that spot and I spy a pair of eyes between two hillocks. Same fox won't make the same mistakes this time  We get set up and have to go on the move as by this time she's again put a hillock between us and her. I'm on the lamp, my mate with the .223 remmy (correction; 55gn acutip remington). We head in maybe 60 yards onto the bogland, spy eyes again around 100 yards away. Wind is totally wrong almost blowing to her, doesn't seem to bother the fox and we didn't complain either... BANG, down goes vikky number two with a nice chest shot. This time I remembered the picture Got home just after 11pm, the time absolutely flew by. It's really addictive! A nigth well spent I reckon. Before tonight I couldn't wait to get my Tikka, now I'm really getting impatient :11: :11: Quote Link to post

Mind you i see more sodding badgers than i do foxes at the moment... or rabbits come to that! Thanks for that LY. My mate & I were talking about mange last night, we don't really have it in these parts thankfully. Last time I heard of a mangey fox was a good 4-5 years ago and none of the ones I've seen since have been anything but healthy. Plenty of badgers around here too, the rabbits are making a good comeback after getting mixy which almost wiped them out completely. Methinks I'll be needing a .22 in the furture when funds allow Quote Link to post

I just tonight got my rifle cert from the Garda. I'm off tomorrow to pick it up from the gunshop but won't be able to shoot it until probably middle of next week due to prior commitments! I'm sure if you ask around there are plenty of knowledgeable T3 owners who would be more than happy to share their expierence with you. I know that Tikka guarentee it's accuracy out of the box to something like 1 inch at 100 yards. Quote Link to post

Irish Lurcher 1,013
Well done pal Great story. I was out during the summer and we had the joy of taking 13 in one night. All were taken down with a .22 No sorry the last two were taken by shotgun as they came out of a large wooded area to the call, both were large dogs. Were you using a sliencer on that 223. Guest JohnGalway
No silencer on it, fluted barrel is too nice for it! Getting my own threaded next year hopefully Quote Link to post
