fordson 33
well stig barkers terriers willkinsons terriers and every other terrier in that district that was working were classed as fell terriers, mongrels really, the lakeland terrier has been the showmans dog for generations, and dont be daft enough to think white lakelands are throwbacks from years ago they were manufactured for profit as l think yo allready know, the fell terrier of years ago is probably as rare as hens teeth, greed ruined the genuine working dogs in the fells .with a lot of money being offered for terriers from the lakes some hill farmers decided to sell terriers to keep an income in times long gone, now when you consider that a lot of these lakeland terrier breeders have a lot in common with the banjo playing boy in deliverance it is impossibe for anyone to have accurate records, and really a pedigree only helps if the dogs for sale. gonetoearth 5,144
Records of breeding are only as good as the people who kept them think a lot has been lost in the annals of time and the rock dogs have accredited to a lot of lines that just maybe was a bit of let's say artistic licence , . Just. For you fordy. Quote Link to post
Tam O'Void 297
If a Working Strain dies out ,is it not down to the guys farther down the line ..than the Progenitor of said Line... You obtain a Worker from a Working Line ...you either work and Test the Dog /Bitch .YOURSELF ,then carry on with the ones that make your "Grade" Surely If you go to a Guy who'se "Grade " is a LOOKER ,then surely you cant blame The Progenitor of the LIne?,for Their failing ,but you sure can. USE his NAME Might be bad logic on my Part but if the Owner of a Terrier that is up for being a Worker,Looks like he can't Walk the distance of himself....WELL...unless someone else is WORKING them for them I.M.O. I'd walk away.. Quote Link to post

chilli 381
My dad used to go digging with him years ago as well as others ,then as it happens they didnt go out digging together for a few years . The next time they met up his dogs had totally changed in size & stamp ,me dad asked him what he had put in them to change the stamp . Gary said that he hadnt put anything different in them , so me dad left it at that . Me dad has often said to me that his dogs were bigger longer stronger dogs than the stuff he is well known for now . Quote Link to post
