It only works in lambs because the tail is growing and gradually gets starved of blood and then falls off. To put a band on a dog which has probably finished growing would just cause pain. Why do you want it docked anyway? The dog will work just as well with a full tail. Quote Link to post

maysleith 0
I do mine at 3 to 4 days depending on the size of the pups...use SHARP curved nail scissors with the curve against the leg...dip the scissors in metho between pups....I don't put any thing on the wound ...just let the bitch lick the cut clean but check on them regularly to make sure they're not still bleeding and the wound is healing up with a scab on it the next day...never had any probs with with the above system though did have one cow of a bitch (1st time mum) that wouldn't lick them so we put a little smear of that sticky condensed milk (the stuff in a tube)on the little pups leg and she started licking them in no time.. hope this helps ...don't give money to vets when you can do it yourself just as well yourself with a little care and knowlege... save that money for when you really do need their expertise ...all the best...Paul Quote Link to post
