Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Cracking evening with just the just the right mix of sun and breeze ,just enough to be aware of both .Got to the ground in plenty of time to have a walk around just incase a buck was out his seat early .Saw only does until a youngster ran away two fields lower in a valley ,a pricket that wasnt for stopping .Stalked down to where he disappeared and stalked into two more does. By now the sun was losing a bit of colour and i suggested we head back to where local knew of a buck that he wanted to remove.Got to the spot and settled in ,spying two does out under a clump of hawthorn on an opposite banking .Time was moving on a bit and no buck with local getting a bit figety .No bother as the scene really was one of tranquility and just nice to be out .A movement to my left and up over a hedge revealed the buck moving up a hedgerow slightly left handed .He had come out a bit earlier than expected and had grazed his way up and around a hedge back before we got in our position .Anyway the stalk was now on with a slow but determnined walk to a gap in the hedge abot 60 yds right handed from the buck.made this and another glass revealed he was now making his way out into the corn field infront of us .He was a good way out so i decided to get through the wire and set up on the headland on bipod .Bit of a fiddle as the corn was long and a prone shot was out but by pushing the pod in a bit on long legs i was able to take a sitting shot .The buck had by now worked his way along the sloping field to be inline with me .Perfect and he dropped to a chest shot .Paced it out to him at 205 paces which i was pleased with.A solid mature buck with nice uniform six .Many thanks to local for a chance to stalk on his ground . The last pic is of a thrashing post of his in the hedgerow ,propper mullered . Edited May 21, 2010 by foxdropper Quote Link to post

Yokel Matt 918
Pleasure mate - Glad it turned well. I was a bit anxious to deliver having bigged up the place so much only to have seen does and a scrawney pricket That buck dominated that patch for sure but his time had come... patience and experience delivering a very good shot as well - hats off The lay up point. Boghossian 0
Nice buck indeed - is he worth measuring? What time do you expect most bucks to come out? I always wonder what time to start stalking on the basis that you bump into them at the oddest times sometimes. Middle of the afternoon even. Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
From experience mate ,the older bucks tend to be the last ones out of cover of an evening though this is by no means a hard and fast rule as we found out . Pressure or lack of it plays the biggest part i think second to weather .In areas such as we have with just hedges then a buck can be found at any time in the same place roughly ,its just knowing where they are so you dont bump them .We start stalking after tea roughly which gives us a chance at the yearling bucks which are much more prone to wandering this time of year ,therefore up on their feet earlier. Hywel 53
Good post there FD, that freezer of yours must be full Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
He’s not medal size Bog but he did have a nice set that were pretty sharp and pointy where he’d been fraying feck out the hedgerows. One thing worth mentioning is that the meat damage from FD’s .243 was next to nothing with just a small exit perhaps the size of a 10p piece... so much for it being a mince-meater Quote Link to post
