mudd dog 128
took the day off work yesterday. got up at 4.15am was on the road with my mate for 4.45am up to my favourite lake. set up and in the water for 6 bells, hoping to get the early feed. not a single run until 11 o clock. 4.5 lbs. then until 3 o clock they didnt stop feeding. i caught another fish at 6 lbs my mate caught two jacks under 3 lb weight so never bothered taking any pics. then i got a run on an eel and landed a 10.5 lber. my mate had a good double on after, that but it shook the hooks out in around 3 ft of water at the side of the bank. he was gutted. everything went quiet then so i took a dander round the lake with a surface lure caught a jack at 3 lb and missed a few other decent fish. they were jumping out of the water like salt water crocs. lol. at one stage two double figure fish went for my lure at once and both missed it. ah well, maybe ill get them next time, theres always another day. thanks.... .......mudd dog.... mudd dog 128
Was they all caught on the LURES? no mate, all caught on dead bait apart from a 3 lber i caught on a surface lure (frog). i'll be trying the lures more often though, they were bigtime hitting it, must be the heat of the summer coming in. sending them nuts Quote Link to post

Think if you are going to use them more often, have a change of lure, as you said the bigger pike missed the lure, they werent obviously that interested in it, or they would have smashed the hell out of it, especially on the surface, plus you only caught jacks.. Try a better sized lure, which swims just under the surface mate...good luck.. Russ. Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
If you can get hold of this lure made by musky mania tackle, you will have some good success, its called "BURT" and swims shallow, depending on how you work it, can be twitched, jerked, and swam straight...performs much better on braid.. runforyourlife 361
These are a cpl of surface lures or just under i made when i first started making them, try it. These are made from spindles off a bannister. Drilled and the right blanence of lead melted it to them for the swimming action, and the suspention in the water.. You'll get a real buzz when you catch your first pike on a lure you made yourself. I have had some big fish on these 2 lures over the years... and some real sport. just a thought for you.. tight lines Russ Quote Link to post
