Guest jt750
maybe he's not ready ...but start off small say 6 inches ( step over) and just lead walk the pup over these during the training time ..then just build the height slowly until as such times it'll need to jump
Rain 232
He jumps little thing but then it comes to like 2 ft and he won't do it cheers for the idea mate wil try it
sandymere 8,263
Patience and slowly increase, as jt75o says, start with say a scaffold plank which is about a foot then increase by a couple of inches a day, cover the bottom gap to discourage crawling, make a game of it ie fuss and jump with it the first few days, till its to high for you and it will come together. Again take time, you can spare a few weeks with such a youngster, don't get frustrated/annoyed the dog will get nervy of the jump. Try to end on success so if it increases a couple of inches stop and call it a day don't keep going until failure as failure teaches failure . Lastly don't over do it the joints are still soft and developing. Regards sandymere.

ROB.BOB 21
block, say a garden gate with fence posts however high you like, step over it and walk away from your dog, i did this yesterday by acsident with the gate into our wood after feeding the chickens and my 7 month lab jumped/scrambled over a 2ft-ish gate (i thought he'd gone through already) and befor that he had only jumped 3 fenceposts with a tennis ball
MissRhianL 70
when i was gettin my saluki x pup into jumpin, on our walks we always used to find fences of all sizes so start with the little ones, the dog at first wil be wary about going over it, so what we had to do was jump over ourself and start walkin away an call the dog, soon as he jumps it, praise him show hes done good and get him to do it again, if the dog dont do it tha way, lift him over and encourage him to jump back, dont try to get the dog to jump every fence as it will get utterly bored and wont want to know anymore. Just little bit every day and gradually the dog will build more confidence and wil be jumpin without thinkin bout it. just have a lot of patience and time. all the best
jf1970 328
i have been teaching my wee bitch to jump in the last week,i put a wooden bar across the entrance at the side of my house about 3 inches high well she is only 2 mths old,i let her do this 3 times a day while retreiving an old sock, for doing this i let her rag the sock for a few minutes when she is finished and then take it of her,the key i think is to be patient and don't over do the exercise, little and often,cheers......john

romany52 313
If it's kennelled put a 6" board across the gate, it's got to jump to get out, then make it a bit higher every couple of days .It'll be jumping before it realizes.
hoolah 2
it seems really simple, but if the dog is out with other dogs and the other dogs are jumping they just tend to copy the others just easy lol
tote 854
As has been said already put some planks of wood in a gateway that you go through everyday so that when you go your walk the dog has to jump them to follow you. Start off low and gradually increase the height as the dog gets more confidence.
CorkyJohn 808
Better to try & build a jump so the dog lands on grass not concrete though
Cochyn 0
My young bitch is a slow/stubborn jumper. I find it helps if she isn't stood too close to the fence/gate and if I don't make a fuss. If she's on a chase though she jumps without thinking.
