danw 1,748
Why would you poach a trophy animal if not for greed? I have no problems with the poacher who needs to feed his family and I have no problem with people legitimately taking a trophy but I have no time for someone who steals a trophy animal, many people would have waited for their ticket to get drawn just to hunt and for some selfish twat too just shoot a trophy such as is described ain't right their is plenty of opportunity in the states to hunt every one has the same chance of getting a tag so it could well have been your trophy that was shot.
Aaron Proffitt 142
Part of the problem , though, is it usually isn't the guy needing to feed his family out poaching . It's usually just a guy out and about who sees a "wall hanger" and decides he is going to take it right then and there, laws be damned. Like someone else said, simple greed. Very rarely is it subsistence hunting.
Aaron Proffitt 142
I can understand a man poaching to feed his family if times are hard but after that it is theft plain and simple and to take an animal just as a trophy is bloody outrageous they deserve all they get. "To take an animal just as a trophy is bloody outrageous"....... . What a f*****g stupid statement to make on a hunting forum. Naaaaaw mate, trophy hunting is a bit souless - its like the folk going out to try and shoot the one white stag just to say they shot it. I fully agree with you mate, i myself wouldn't see a benefit of shooting a beast like that but there are alot of others that do and if thats there sport then who are we to rubbish it? Yeah, but the great thing about shooting a beast like that is he is quite an accomplishment ......and tastes great, too.

MuttleMcTuttle 21
Is wrong to kill any animal, for no reason. Maybe food, is an exuse, in correct season. Not in this time, when much food everywhere. Animal should be respect, & able to breed & for our children to enjoy also. Pest is diffrent. I agree with Clint

I agree with Clint ANTI HUNTERS BOTH OF YOU - FINALLY ADMITTED IT- WHY EVEN BOTHER TO BE ON A HUNTING SITE I AM SURE THE RSPCA CAN USE YOUR HELP... Hunting in any modern society is purely recreational to make a statement like this is wrong minded and it belongs on another site.... A man dosn't need an excuse to hunt! A man either hunts or he dosn't. Hey Clin't go talk to your sheep and give them a nice little pet then contact the RSPCA I am sure they could use another wacko! Dont think ive ever hunted anything just for a trophy Nor me, but saying that 'Each to their own'. I might not agree with another mans pursuit, but to protest against it like it's the worst thing in the world would make me no better than the antis who oppose what I do, in my eyes..
donk 12
Yeah well said Maltenby, i can live with that. Though the thing that bothers me is that normally a trophy hunter is 'bigging himself up' by what he does, and i dont see many real hunters doing that, its just what they do. And i guess the thing that worries me is the way that a trophy hunter needs to kill a beast because its for his collection,or because the beast is a rare breed or type? To me, for example, an albino crow is a wonderful sight, and something i've seen only once. Would the trophy hunter see it like that, or as the next victim on his kill list? Thats my worry, but im not going to get into any fights over it

For me there's a difference between saying someone's an idiot for doing something, & saying what they're doing should not be done because I personally wouldn't do it. I think that makes sense Edited May 21, 2010 by maltenby

SHOTGUNSNIPER 47
3 or 4 years ago the AZ game and Fish caught and prosecuted a poaching gang that was composed entirely of Illegal aliens of the mexican variety. They had 20 cow elk (like a big red deer) hanging in a big comercial walk in cooler and were selling it at several Carniceria's (mexican butcher) they were snaring the elk at salt licks.... The Game and Fish confiscated all the vehicles, gun's and Meat shops that sold the elk meat... Some went to prison and the rest deported.... I guess they paid a fee to take our wild game..... Maybe some of the UK poachers think they are crafty enough to come here and poach..... I love to hunt poacher's big reward's and it is quite satisfying when you catch one - almost as much fun as catching a drug smuggler.... Same kind of criminal..... Hey Aron do you eat poacher's? We would have no reason to go and poach in america as permision to hunt would be easey to get you can get prosecuted in this country for killing rats if permission has not being given would that happen in america i dont think so
