Lifting kits in a few weeks

Recommended Posts

I see a lot of fellas on here don't put bedding inside the run just in the nesting box, I could get saw dust for the whole run but is it necessary?

I'll be feeding them on meat all the time from the butcher with dry food a last resort, to stop them getting ticks or fleas off whole rabbits should freeze them for a few weeks first?

Can I feed squirrel? (I'm always trapping them)

Do I need to do anysort of flea treatment?

and a pic of the run, a big work in progress. there will be two tiers on the left and nesting boxes on the right, it's all going to be done over with ply on the back and floor with mesh on the front, I just used the old desk as it was a good shape/ starting point, everything else is stuff from around the yard

Cue the A-team music.... :D

If you have a plentiful supply of rabbit use that... i have never had fleas or tick problems feeding whole rabbit ........... i use shavings in the run & paper in the bedding box ..... make sure you use small guage mesh as ferrets will escape from the fronts of cages if its a chicken wire sized gap

yea most ferts will eat squirrels.i use old jumpers for bedding and straw. shavings on floor of rest of hutch.I have a big run for mine with concrete floor and its quite high aswell.so i cover the run floor with a lot of straw in case of any falls.

Mine like squirrel, but they are normally crawling with fleas.. i freeze for a couple of months and that seems to do the trick.

I have never had a problem with fleas / ticks on bunnies but normally freeze them anyway, you can always take their jacket off if you dont want to take the chance.

on thinking about this ive seen fleas on rabbits but over the thousands of rabbits ive killed i have never once seen a tick on them, has anyone else seen one, think rabbits have a way of escaping them my theory is the live in the dark and tick dont like that. what your veiws.

normally when u shoot or ferret a rabbit the fleas will go towards the ears then u will see them jump off, most fleas can feed off different hosts but cant breed with the wrong host, so the cycle wont last last if ur worried

That's exactly why I was worried, seeing the amount of fleas that jump off some rabbits ears is mad, I try and keep them away from the dog once caught until they are skinned.
