CI HIR 13
I`ve always liked the look of that black coyote dog Sport(from Nebraska I believe).Ted Walsh described him in his book as the best hunting dog he`d ever seen.Do dogs from his lines still exist in the USA?Was he that good, compared to other staghounds? Very easy to with the temps we get out here. I know who you mean but have never met that couple didnt know they ran deerhounds though. One of theses days when I have more space I'm going to get a myself a deerhound greyhound cross. I brought A good one over to the states when I emmigrated but one Ernie Eichwalds Stags killed him. Still hurts to think of losing that dog like that. Quote Link to post
stevemac 442
I was told by Gail Goodman to keep an eye on Ernies dogs as they had been known to be like that and she said she doesnt run her dogs with him. I didnt see any nigle amongst his dogs bwhile I was there but Im sure they would be capable to sort any out if they needed to. Quote Link to post

His dogs have always been ok within their pack just outsiders watch out. Quote Link to post
dirtwinger 235
that black dog is fast as f**k mate do you hunt all year round I quit hunting around early March due to the hares breeding and Start up in late September, it is way too hot to run safely in the summer even if there werent young hares all over. It is a 100 degrees right now! Hers a couple of pics from the start of the seaon and the end. Percy the sire of the pup below at the start of the 09 season, he is retired now at ten years old he cant do it anymore This is one of hersons from a litter I bred last year This was in Feb 2010 The black bitch is retired she got a weird condition in her toenails that made them weak crumbly and curly so she would tear them off when she ran a hare. She would still do it but would come back a bloody wreck and be off for two weeks recovering after a course. Running once every two weeks she could still take a hare singlehanded completly unfit. She is the fastest dog I have ever run or seen for that matter with incredible stamina, it was heartbreaking when her feet went to hell. Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
I'm sure that you've looked into this, but a friend of mine had a similar problem with a lurcher bitch, whose granddam suffered from Collie nose, which is an auto immune condition. Several of her pups had similar problems, and now, 2 generations later, this bitch has the crumbling claw problem. My friend has almost got on top of the condition by feeding only raw food, plenty of Kelp and various other herbal immune system strengtheners, if that is the right word. I've got a bitch who is distantly related and she gets skin conditions if she's not fed 100% on raw food with loads of herbal things: sent you pm. Quote Link to post
