hily 379
To some folk on here a fox is the most hated thing on the planet and should be killed on site i put this down to some immaturity and some daftness To me it is a pest to be contained . On the other hand at the moment the media will insist on showing fluffy fox pictures and nice rescue storys at one time a fox was respected for its sly cunning and cruel nature now it can be trusted to run a bingo company and even the latest robin hood film is said to be not as good as the cartoon one with the fox as the main man and thats it we give the fox to much credit in the way it is humanised by the media a fox is an animal living in a world dominated by humans. Can anyone else add to the way the media give the fox the nature of a human and not of an animal. SHOTGUNSNIPER 47
In Arizona we have Gray Fox - A very diferant animal from the Reds back east or the European Variety , for one they are no where as large. They don't seem to rely on burrow's as much either - I have seen dogs tree them on several occasions. Here there is a season on them, they are considered a furbearer and the season run's from September to March. They come in aggressivley to the call, sometimes in pairs... I have never heard of these little fellas making a urban problem of themselves, possibly they are are too small to prey on dog's and cats or to compete with them at the garbage bins - maybe they don't like garbage.... So our fox's are way diferant.. Coyotes on the other hand are a big problem - Preying on cat's , dog's and all forms of livestock - Garbage raiding and even attacks on children. Coyotes are not part of the furbearer season and can be shot year round... When I am in a rural area I will shoot all the coyotes I can regardless of the time of year. In remote areas and wilderness areas I let them live durring the summer months but when the fur picks up in the winter I shoot and skin... Mabey I can work a trade - An Arizona Coyote Hide stretched for a wall hanger for an English Charley Pelt.

Kye 77
Well i think foxs are cute, especially cubs,..but what young mammal isnt cute and cuddly?...you havent seen cute till youve seen a mamma skunk and five babies ploding along behind her!...i respect every animal there is,...i also hunt every available animal there is, and it is treated with respect, when alive, and when dead...nowt wrong with having feelings of compassion for the animals that you hunt and admire...its when you STOP having them feelings, that it stops being hunting, and starts being murdering....just my take on it. stick 2
i agree, the fox is a beautiful creature and it does play its part in the countryside ecosystem. and it is only natural to humanise an animal, its no different to seeing your dogs as family. people saying they need to be eradicated at all costs in my opinion are idiots. a) have some respect for your quarry. and b- what would you hunt when it is gone? yes, they are killers and yes, they cause trouble for farmers and without check on their numbers they arent even any good to themselves, but at the end of the day the aim should be to control their numbers while conserving them for a) their role in cleaning up the countryside and b- for future generations to hunt. I agree I don't see them as particularly cute and fluffy but I see no reason to eradicate them in areas where they do no harm. I don't think they belong in towns, and urban foxes always seem to be the "disease ridden" variety. If they are causing a problem they need to be controlled, same as badgers, but I agree they do have a part to play in the countryside.

Exactly the way I fell about them Dell. It's all about maintaining a stable population, not wiping them out.
